“Naunihaal” (1967) was a movie that did not do well at the box office. This movie had a few nice songs in it, though. After all, it has Madan Mohan as the music director.
Here is the song “tumhaari zulfon ke saaye me shaam kar loongaa” from this movie. It is sung by Rafi and the lyricist was Kaifi Azmi. This song was picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and Indrani Mukherji. It was yet another Madan Mohan classic composed for a forgotten movie.

The proportions of great songs among all Madan Mohan songs is indeed very high.

I am not an unbiased observer here when I say that I cannot agree with the two of you more.
Or to say in a simple way: you two are right.
I do not have the figures for the other music directors, but from what I know, Madan Mohan seems to have a noticeably high proportion of great (if not necessarily commercially successful) songs. I was trying to make a list and came up with at least 160 superior quality songs (from Aaj Socha to Zara Si Aahat) of the 400 or so that I have heard so far.

Like you, I too have tried to collect the songs of Madan Mohan and I am just amazed by the quality of these songs.
He has created just over 700 songs. May be we will be able to catalogue all his songs in future.

I hope there is some way MM would know how much people appreciate his work: he has so few “time-waste” songs.
