on:Most of the songs posted in this blog are from 1970s and earlier. It is because I like to post those songs that people love to listen to even today. Most songs of 1990s and later are not as timeless as the earlier songs. In fact , many of these songs are forgotten within a few weeks after they are released.
Here is a song from a 1991 movie called “Phool aur Kaante”. This was the debut movie of Ajay Devgan and Madhu and this movie was produced by Ajay Devgan’s father ( fightmaster Veeru Devgan) to launch his son as a hero.
The movie was successful as Ajay Devgan’s career was launched. In fact, father launching the career of his son by producing a movie has been a tried and tested formula. That is how the careers of star sons like Rishi Kapoor ( in “Bobby”), Kumar Gaurav (in “Love Story”), Sanjay Dutt (in “Rocky” ), Sunny Deol ( in “Betaab”) were launched. Later, that is how Hriithik Roshan’s career was launched ( with “kaho na Pyaar hai” )
Music of these movies played an important role in the success of these movies. As far as “Phool aur kaante” is concerned, the movie was a big hit with front stallers and its songs were quite popular.
Here is the song ‘tumse milne ko dil karta hai” from this movie. It is sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. It was written bt Rani Malik and the music was composed by Nadeem Shrawan. this song was picturised on the lead pair of Ajay Devgan and Madhu.

Lyrics
ruk jaanaa
ruk jaanaa
ruk jaanaa
ruk jaanaa
tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
ke tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
jab se tumse shuru ye kahaani huyi
jab se tumse shuru ye kahaani huyi
log kahte hain main to deewaani huyi
jaane kyaa baat aisi hai tujhmein sanam
jaane kyaa baat aisi hai tujhmein sanam
jaane kyaa baat aisi hai tujhmein sanam
ye dil tere liye hi machaltaa hai
tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
door tumse rahoon to hon bechainiyaan
door tumse rahoon to hon bechainiyaan
paas aaun to badhti hain betaabiyaan
ho naa jaaye kahin tu mujhse judaa
ho naa jaaye kahin tu mujhse judaa
ho naa jaaye kahin tu mujhse judaa
aisi baaton se dil dartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
tum hi ho jispe dil martaa hai
ke tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai
re baabaa tumse milne ko dil kartaa hai

many of these songs are forgotten within a few weeks after they are released.
That’s what I had felt of songs post-80s actually cause several movies in 80s had such bad lyrics and harsh music.
However, now I am seeing Lyricists come up with good songs like Bol Na Halke Halke or Jiya Dhadak Dhadak or Chaayee Madhoshiyan from recent movies in past few years that show some real good music and enjoyable lyrics. Hopefully these will last as long as the 50s, 60s and 70s songs.
Phool Aur Kaante was re-made in Telugu as Vaarasudu (A Nagarjuna Nagma movie, a movie that actually spiked the career of Nagarjuna with fast-beat dances and action scenes which he had not done before).
