Jo hampe guzarti hai
Posted on: June 14, 2009
Suman Kalyanpur had a voice that sounded very similar to Lata, and that hurt her career. But having listened to lots of songs sung by Suman Kalyanpur, now I feel that I have become somewhat able to distinguish her voice from Lata’s voice.
And one thing that everyone must have noticed is that most songs sung by Suman Kalyanpur have gone on to become memorable songs. That way, she was somewhat similar to Mukesh. Both sang similar number of songs ( just over 700) and majority of songs sung by them went on to become hit songs.
Here is a very nice song sung by Suman Kalyanpur. It is from “Mohabbat Isko Kahte Hain” (1965). Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist and Khayyam is the music director.
This song was picturised on Nanda in this movie which had Shashi Kapoor and Nanda in lead roles.

Song –Jo hampe guzarti hai (Mohabbat isko kahte hain ) (1965) Singer- Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Khayyam
Lyrics
jo ham pe guzarti hai
tanhaa kise samjhaayen
tanhaa kise samjhaayen
tum bhi to nahin milte,
jaayen to kidhar jaayen
jaayen to kidhar jaayen
samjhaa hai na samjhegaa
is gham ko yahaan koyi
bedardon ki basti hai,
hamdard kahaan koyi
jo sirf tumhaaraa hai,
wo dil kise dikhlaayen
wo dil kise dikhlaayen
jo ham pe guzarti hai
tanhaa kise samjhaayen
tanhaa kise samjhaayen
jab jaan-e-wafaa teri furqat naa sataayegi
wo subah kab aayegi, wo shaam kab aayegi
kab tak dil-e-naadaan ko ham waadon se bahlaayen
ham waadon se bahlaayen
tum bhi to nahin milte
jaayen to kidhar jaayen
jaayen to kidhar jaayen
aajaa ki muhabbat ko mitne ko hain tasweeren
aajaa ki muhabbat ko mitne ko hain tasweeren
pahre hain nigaahon pe aur paanv mein zanjeeren
bas mein hi nahin warnaa ham udke chale aayen
ham udke chale aayen
bas mein hi nahin warnaa ham udke chale aayen
ham udke chale aayen
jo ham pe guzarti hai
tanhaa kise samjhaayen
tanhaa kise samjhaayen
