Ye raatein nayi puraani

Posted on: July 9, 2009

I have posted over a thousand songs in this blog. Despite that, there are many popular and well known movies whose songs have yet to find places in this blog.

“Julie” (1975) is one such movie. it is not that I was not aware of it. I too knew about it, but I kept postponing posting of songs from this movie because this is a “recent” movie by my standards, and at present I am concentrating on posting songs from older movies.

But I agree that the songs of “Julie” very much belongs to ths blog.

There were quite a few songs of “Julie” that were popular at that time, including a song that was actually in english language viz “my heart is beating”.

Now that the dust has settled, the song that continues to be the most popular from this movie is this club song -“ye raatein nayi puraani”. It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Reeta Bhaduri. Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics. Music direction was by Rajesh Roshan, son of Late Roshan and he was making his debut in Bollywood as a music director.

Song-Ye raaten nayi puraani (Julie) (1975) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Rajesh Roshan

Lyrics

ye raaten nayi puraani
ye raaten nayi puraani
aate aate-jaate kahti hain koyi kahaani
ye raaten nayi puraani
aate aate-jaate kahti hain koyi kahaani
ye raaten

aa rahaa hai dekho koyi jaa rahaa hai dekho koyi
sabke dil hain jaage-jaage sabki aankhen khoyi-khoyi
khaamoshi karti hai baaten
ye raaten nayi puraani
aate aate-jaate kahti hain koyi kahaani
ye raaten

kyaa samaa hai jaise khushboo ud rahi ho kaliyon se
guzri ho nindiyaa mein palkon ki galiyon se
sundar sapnon ki baaraaten
ye raaten nayi puraani
aate aate-jaate kahti hain koyi kahaani
ye raaten

kaun jaane kab chalengi kis taraf se ye hawaayen
saal bhar to yaad rakhnaa aisaa na ho bhool jaayen
is raat ki mulaakaaten
ye raaten nayi puraani
aate aate-jaate kahti hain koyi kahaani
ye raaten nayi puraani
aate aate-jaate kahti hain koyi kahaani

Welcome to this blog. The songs mentioned by you will definitely make it to the blog with time.

I will request you not to post in all Capitals, because it is difficult on the eyes, and even otherwise it is not advisable to use all Capitals in a comment or post.

Just for the record, this was not debut film of Rajesh Roshan. He made his debut a year earlier in 1974 with Kunwara Baap.
