Kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare

Posted on: August 17, 2009

Bollywood romantic songs are reputed to be sung while running around trees. But how do the hero and heroine reach there in the first place ? In case they are rich, they have a car to reach there, but there is nothing romantic in that. It is far more romantic when the hero is driving a motor bike and the lady seated behind is clinging on to him with her arms strategically placed on hero’s body.

But the method of locomotion in older movies was even more romantic. I have seen an old movie where the hero is so broke that he makes the heroine walk on foot, but on most occasions, the hero used to have a bicycle and he would carry the heroine on the front bar of his bicycle. Singing while going round the trees was for the future, and they would burst into a song for the present while atop the bicycle. I suppose this was their way of singing one for the road.

Here is a bicycle song from “Apna Ghar” (1960). Singers are Suman Kalyanpur and Rafi. Prem Dhawan wrote the song and Ravi composed the music. I can identify the lady seated on the front bar as Nanda, but I do not know who is this guy who is doing the onerous job of pedalling with such excess payload. 😉 Can some one identify him ?

PS- Moti Sagar it is, based on the comments on this post.

Song-Kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare (Apna Ghar) (1960) Singers-Suman Kalyanpur, Rafi, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Ravi

Lyrics

kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare
aao chhed de taraane zara pyaar ke
dekho kaali kaali ye ghataayen
chali jaayen na ji hamko pukaar ke
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare
aao chhed de taraane zara pyaar ke
dekho kaali kaali ye ghataayen
chali jaayen na ji hamko pukaar ke
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare

tum saath raho jo mere
main raahen nayi banaa loon
teri raahon ke kaanten
apni palkon se uthaa loon
tum saath raho jo mere
main raahen nayi banaa loon
teri raahon ke kaanten
apni palkon se uthaa loon
tu mera pyaar meri bahaar
mera singaar sajnaa
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare
aao chhed de taraane zara pyaar ke
dekho kaali kaali ye ghataayen
chali jaayen na ji hamko pukaar ke
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare

is duniya ki nazron se
aa door kahin kho jaayen
ji bhar ke jahaan dil jhoome
ham geet milan ke gaayen
is duniya ki nazron se
aa door kahin kho jaayen
ji bhar ke jahaan dil jhoome
ham geet milan ke gaayen
saare jag ko chhod
liya tujh se jod jeewan ye maine apnaa
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare
aao chhed de taraane zara pyaar ke
dekho kaali kaali ye ghataayen
chali jaayen na ji hamko pukaar ke
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare

ham ik manzil ke raahi
bichhdenge kabhi na milke
duniya waale kyaa jaanen
armaan hamare dil ke
ham ik manzil ke raahi
bichhdenge kabhi na milke
duniya waale kyaa jaanen
armaan hamare dil ke
kaho dil ki baat
din ho ya raat
rahoon tere saath sajnaa
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare
aao chhed de taraane zara pyaar ke
dekho kaali kaali ye ghataayen
chali jaayen na ji hamko pukaar ke
kaise bheege bheege pyaare hain nazaare
aaaa aaaa ooo
aaaa aaaa ooo

I am pretty sure that the guy powering the excess payload (you are a cruel man Atul, but fair) is Karan Dewan—he had a few “hero” roles in the 1950s although he didn’t seem to be a huge success…

Mouth organ also plays an important role in Indian films. Atulji you can do research on it.

🙂 at “excess payload”.
Only he who has had such excess payload on a bicycle can comment on whether the pleasure is worth the pain. Sadly for me, I have not had such an experience in my life.

This is a nice song though it seems to have been “inspired” in parts by “ye chand khila wo taare hasey” from Anari.

i know for a fact that this hero is not Karan Dewan i will contact my own encyclopedia and ask for who this actor was
wow! what description—- payload! hahahahaha!

How i wish I could have been in the shoes of this bicyclist. But I know for sure that real life pretty ladies are not as inclined to being seated on the front bar of a bicycle as these filmy ladies.

ok on further research i am sure this is not karan dewan. Karan Dewan was the one with Meena Kumari in M.Sadiq’s “Anmol Ratan”.
now that leaves us with the task of who this actor is

Maybe it’s Moti Sagar? I agree that it’s not Karan Dewan, he had a much sadder expression 🙂

I think it is Moti Sagar, he’s the guy on the left in this photo:

How I love to waste time on this sort of thing instead of my job.

Ok, so it is Moti Sagar then. Thanks for the detailed research on Moti Sagar. How he could have done with this kind of close scrutiny during his heydays.

i initally thought moti sagar was not attractive but the m ore i watched the more i noticed his charm… I think too much smoking curled his hair too much and casued haiir to thin also- lol. it true that we should make judgements based soley on frist impressions. i wish there was more about him on the net than just hte name of his daughters.
