on:The movie “Masoom” (1960) is known for the immortal song “Naani teri morni ko mor le gaye”.
This movie in fact had some other nice songs as well. Here is another great, if somewhat lesser known song from this movie. This song is sung by Subir Sen, Aarti Mukherji and chorus. Raja Mehdi ali Khan is the lyricist and Robin Mukherji is the music director.
This song is picturised on Manmohan Krishna, Honey Irani and others.

Song-Hamen un raahon par chalna hai (Masoom) (1960) Singers-Aarti Mukherji, Subir Sen, Lyrics-Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, MD-Robin Banerji
Lyrics
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
ham hain wo diye auron ke liye
jinhen toofaanon mein jalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
jab tak na lagan ho seene mein
bekaar hai aise jeene mein
jab tak na lagan ho seene mein
bekaar hai aise jeene mein
chadhnaa hai hamen chandaa ki tarah
sooraj ki tarah nahin dhalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
ham hain wo diye auron ke liye
jinhen toofaanon mein jalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
main paas rahoon yaa door rahoon
ye baat abhi tum se kah doon
main paas rahoon yaa door rahoon
ye baat abhi tum se kah doon
hansnaa hi nahin phoolon ki tarah
deepak ki tarah hamen jalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
ham hain wo diye auron ke liye
jinhen toofaanon mein jalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
aakaash se aati hai ye sadaa
gham aaye agar to ji na dhalaa
aakaash se aati hai ye sadaa
gham aaye agar to ji na dhalaa
kabhi gham hain yahaan,
kabhi hain khushiyaan
har haal mein ham ko palnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai
ham hai wo diye auron ke liye
jinhen toofaanon mein jalnaa hai
hamen un raahon par chalnaa hai
jahaan girnaa aur sambhalnaa hai

Yes, those were the days of idealism in India, when we loved all these patriotic and idealistic songs. I remember singing this song and the one from Ganga Jumna, Insaaf ki dagar pe …, and believing in the lyrics. I wish at least some of that would still be there in India today.

I simply love this song as when my father cried on watching this song when the mother of three beautiful children is no more. My father’s first wife died leaving behind three children of exactly the same age as these
three. I am sure he saw himself singing this song. The looks on faces of
two younger kids in the beginning lines is heartrending for me. Thanks
Atulbhai, for posting this song.

Wow !!! Wow !!! Wow !!!
I cannot believe I am hearing this song again.
This was a song taught to me in my early primary school (1st/2nd standard) by my schoolteacher.
I learnt the song having no idea about its background – I did not even know it was a movie song !!!
I had completely forgotten about it.
Listening to it after all these years, there are tears in my eyes.
Thanks, Atul, for unearthing this treasure of a song.
