Lahron pe lahar ulfat hai jawaan

Shobhana Samarth, a leading actress of her time had launched her elder daughter Nutan through a home production called “Hamaari Beti”. When her younger daughter Tanuja too grew old enough to act in movies, Shobhana Samarth produced another movie called “Chhabili” (1960). In addition to Tanuja, Nutan and Shobhana Samarth had also acted in this movie.
The fate of this movie is not known to me, but most probably this movie failed to take off. But then satellite launch vehicles do not go to space, they fall down but make sure that the payload aboard them is launched. The career of Tanuja certainly took off after this movie.
This movie had a few wonderful songs in it. These was one song in it that went- “lahron pe lahar ulfat hai jawaan”. It had two versions. The solo version was sung by Hemant Kumar. In the duet version, Nutan joins in. Yes, this song is one of those rare songs in which Nutan does the playback singing for herself. Both version have identical lyrics.
S R Ratan wrote the lyrics and Snehal Bhatkar composed the music.
Here is this song, in both the versions.
Solo (Hemant Kumar)
Duet (Hemant Kumar, Nutan)
Song-Lahron pe lahar ulfat hai jawaan (Chhabili) (1960) Singer-Hemant Kumar, Nutan, Lyrics- S Ratan, MD- Snehal Bhatkar
Lyrics
lahron pe lahar, ulfat hai jawaan
raaton ki sahar, chali aao yahaan
sitaare timtimaate hain, tu aajaa aajaa
machalti jaa rahi hai ye hawaayen aajaa aajaa
lahron pe lahar, ulfat hai jawaan
raaton ki sahar, chali aao yahaan
sulagti chaandni mein tham rahi hai tujh pe nazar
kadam ye kis taraf badhte chale jaate hain bekhabar
zamaane ko hai bhoole ham ?? khwaab ye safar
lahron pe lahar, ulfat hai jawaan
raaton ki sahar, chali aao yahaan
na jaane kaun si raahen hamaaraa kaun saa hai jahaan
sahaare kiske ham dhoondhen, hamaari manzil hai kahaan
sadaa dil ki magar kahti hai meri duniyaa hai yahaan
lahron pe lahar, ulfat hai jawaan
raaton ki sahar, chali aao yahaan

I love this song. I was just going to mention the other song by Nutan and I find that memsaab has mentioned it! It is also a beautiful song, and Nutan sings it very well.

Doubtful words :
‘sulagti chaandni mein tham rahi hai tujh pe ‘yeh’ nazar
kadam ye kis taraf badhte chale jaate hain bekhabar
zamaane ko hai bhoole ham ‘aa chalen saath’ ye safar’
It sounds familiar, though i have heard it for the first time today. A very nice combination of Hemant Kumar, nutan and the soft music, with sounds of sea.
A trivia about Nutan, Tanuja and Shobhana samarth : Nutan was estranged from sister tanuja and their mother for many years. I dont know if Nutan ever reconciled with them, as she pre-deceased Shobhna Samarth.

Lovely song! I have not been able to find the film anywhere although I have looked! I love Nutan’s solo song in this film “Ae Mere Humsafar”…she had a nice voice for certain types of songs definitely.
