After India became an independent nation in 1947, nation building began in the right earnest. Movies too reflected it, and many movies of that era talked about nation building, and also about the values and aspirations of the newly independent nation.
Unity in diversity is one theme that the nation firmly stood for. The fact that despite all the diversity in the nation, the country is one has been stressed from all fora, including movies.
One of the first such songs which talked about unity in diversity was the title song of the movie “Ham Panchhi ek daal ke” (1957). Most people these days have no idea about the movie, but everyone is aware of this song. This song has gone on to become an iconic song.
Here is this song, sung by Rafi and it is picturised on a group of kids. This song is sung on screen by a very young Jagdeep. This has to be one of the most well known song picturised on Jagdeep.
P L Santoshi is the lyricist. N Datta composed the music.
PS-Much later, I have been informed that this song has an Asha Bhonsle solo version too. The lyrics of this version as well as the link, which are provided by Sudhir jee has also been included now.

jis ghar ke logon ko subah jhagadte dekhaa hai
shaam huyi ke ghar wahi ujadte dekhaa hai
arre banti nahin hai baat jhagde se kabhi yaaron
bante bante baat ko bigadte dekhaa hai
are ham panchhi ek daal ke
ek daal ke
ham panchhi ek daal ke
ek daal ke
hoy
sang-sang dolen ji sang-sang dolen
sang-sang dolen ji sang-sang dolen
boli apni-apni bolen
boli apni-apni bolen ji bolen ji bolen
haan
sang-sang dolen ji sang sang dole
ham panchi ek daal ke
ek daal ke
din ke jhagde din ko bhoolen

raat ko sapnon mein ham jhoolen

dharti bichhaunaa neeli chadariyaa
meethi neenden so len ji so len ji so len

boli apni apni bolen
boli apni apni bolen ji bolen ji bolen

Nice song.
Jagdeep was also in Aar-Paar (1954). One can see how young he was in “Kabhi aar kabhi paar lagaa tiir-e-nazar” song.
