Kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa

Posted on: March 5, 2010

“Nadiyaa Ke Paar” (1982) was a quintessential Rajshri Productions movie. Like all Rajshri productions movies, this movie too was a low budget movie, made with less known actors, including newcomers. Like all other Rajshri productions movies, this movie too had outstanding music in it.

Later on, Rajshri productions decided to go upmarket, and remade the same movie as “Hum Aapke Hai Kaun” (1995) and that movie became a monster hit.

Now, when I look back, I realise that “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1982) had a charm that was not possible to be replicated by making it upmarket and upscale. The rural background shown in the movie, and the rural characters depicted in it are far more believable and adorable, if one has the right temperament to enjoy this movie.

Rural Bihar/ UP forms the background of “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1982) and the movie keeps you spellbound throughout. I recall that I had gone to watch this movie in a small town movie hall in Bihar in 1983 alongwith my batchmates and a couple of seniors. We all loved the movie, including those who were brought up in metropolitan cities. One such suitably impressed senior kept asking the meaning of words like “Bhauji” etc for the next few days.

In many Bollywood movies, we have hero driving in a car and singing a song. Here the hero (Sachin) is driving a bullockcart along with the heroine (Sadhana Singh) and they burst into a song. The lyrics by Raavindra Jain are really cute and real life like. Jaspal Singh and Hemlala sing this song beautifully. Ravindra Jain is the music director as well.

It is a really beautiful song and the song , to my mind sounds even better with the passage of time. I cannot believe that this song and this movie is now 28 years old. It appers to me as if I watched this movie just the other day. That way, this movie has gone on to become a timeless movie.

Song-Kaun disha mein leke chala re batohiyaa (Nadiya Ke Paar) (1982) Singers-Hemlata, Jaspal Singh, Lyrics- Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain

Lyrics

kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa
kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa
kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa
ae thahar thahar, ye suhaani si dagar
zaraa dekhan de, dekhan de
man bharmaaye nainaa baandhe ye dagariyaa
man bharmaaye nainaa baandhe ye dagariyaa
kahin gaye jo thahar, din jaayegaa guzar
gaadi haankan de, haankan de,
kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa
kaun disaa mein

pahli baar ham nikle hain ghar se,
kisi anjaane ke sang ho
anjaane se pahchaan badhegi to
mahak uthegaa toraa ang ho
mahak se tu kahin bahak na jaanaa
mahak se tu kahin bahak na jaanaa
na karnaa mohe tang ho,
tang karne kaa tose naataa hai guzariyaa
tang karne kaa tose naataa hai guzariyaa
he, thahar thahar,
ye suhaani si dagar
zaraa dekhan de, dekhan de,
kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa
kaun disaa mein

ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho
ho ho ho

kitni door abhi kitni door hai,
ai Chandan toraa gaanv ho
kitnaa apnaa lagane lage jab
koyi bulaaye naam ho
naam na len to kyaa kahke bulaayen
naam na len to kyaa kahke bulaayen
kaise karaayen kaam ho,
saathi mitwaa yaa anaadi kaho goriyaa
saathi mitwaa yaa anaadi kaho goriyaa
kahin gaye jo thahar, din jaayegaa guzar
gaadi haankan de, haankan de,
kaun disaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa
kaun disaa mein

ai Gunjaa, us din tori sakhiyaan,
kartin thin kyaa baat ho?
kahtin thin tore saath chalan ko to,
aagaye ham tore saath ho
saath adhooraa tab tak jab tak
saath adhooraa tab tak jab tak
poore naa hon phere saath ho,
ab hi to hamari hai baali re umariyaa
ab hi to hamari hai baali re umariyaa
he thahar thahar, ye suhaani si dagar
zaraa dekhan de, dekhan de,
man bharmaaye nainaa baandhe ye dagariyaa
man bharmaaye nainaa baandhe ye dagariyaa
kahin gaye jo thahar, din jaayegaa guzar
gaadi haankan de, dekhan de,
man bharmaaye nainaa baandhe ye dagariyaa
man bharmaaye

This song brings back some memories of that period.
I have not seen this movie but I remember this song very well.
Typical Rajshri-type movie, I guess.
Jaspal Singh became famous in those days for that one song “geet gaata chal”.
