Bade hain dil ke kaale
Posted on: July 29, 2010
In Bollywood movies of 1950s and 1960s, we had “teasing” songs where the hero would tease the heroine, often too nastily in my view and get away with it, unlike how it is in real life in India, where “eve-teasing” is a serious offence.
On the other hand, a girl teasing a boy is much more acceptable and even desirable. There is no law in India against girls indulging in “adam-teasing”. 😀
In my book (there are many who follow the same book) Shammi Kapoor has been given immunity from charges of eve teasing, while for the same act, people like Rajendra Kumar would be taken up.
In “Dil Deke Dekho” (1959) Shammi Kapoor is seen teasing Asha Parekh a lot. Here in this song, it is Asha Parekh who is seen returning the compliment. And this song makes no secret of the fact that this teasing song is in fact a love song in disguise.
The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi and it is picturised on Asha Parekh and Shammi Kapoor. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Usha Khanna, who was making her debut here, composed the music.
This song is a nice fast paced song that remains popular to this day, despite the passage of half a century. Half a century, did I say ? How time flies !

Song-Bade hain dil ke kaale (Dil Deke Dekho) (1959) Singers-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Usha Khanna
Lyrics
bade hain dil ke kaale
haan yahi
neeli si aankhon waale
soorat buri ho
buraa nahin dil meraa
naa ho yaqeen aazmaa le
bade hain dil ke kaale
haan yahi
neeli si aankhon waale
soorat buri ho
buraa nahin dil meraa
naa ho yaqeen aazmaa le
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah waah waah
jaise bhale ho
sab hai khabar
sher-o-sharaarat ki ye nazar
aankhon mein aankhen daal ke ham
ho gaye ab to jaane jigar
haan yahi to the abhi aap kidhar gaye
samjho hamen ham jaan se guzar gaye
jeeteji mar gaye,
waah ji waah
marnaa meri zindagi hai
deewaanaa hoon pyaar kaa
tum bhi ek din aazmaa ke dekho to zaraa
bade hain dil ke kaale
haan yahi
neeli si aankhon waale
soorat buri ho
buraa nahin dil meraa
naa ho yaqeen aazmaa le
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah waah waah
rok bhi lo ab apni zubaan
warnaa qayaamat hogi yahaan
ham bhi qayaamat se nahin kam
jaaoge bachke door kahaan
haan hamko bade bade dhoondh ke haare
dhoondh hi laayenge dil ke sahaare
aap kisike bhi hain,
waah ji waah
khul jaayegaa haal tum pe
dil-e-beqaraar kaa
naino se naina milaake dekho to zaraa
bade hain dil ke kaale
haan yahi
neeli si aankhon waale
soorat buri ho
buraa nahin dil meraa
naa ho yaqeen aazmaa le
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah
meri jaan waah waah waah waah waah

Ha ha Atul. You’re funny. When gals do adam teasing (where do they come up with these) it means they don’t like the guy. Slightly different from eve teasing.

Atul,
I saw this song today morning on B4U Music and came here to go through the discussion. The video link is not working. The new video link :

This video is uploaded by Shemaroo so I hope that this won’t be withdrawn 🙂
It looks like this is ‘two-in-one’ kind of a song. I get a feeling that ‘Bade hain dil ke kaale’ is a response from Asha Parekh for Shammi Kapoor’s ‘Megha re bole ganan ganan’. Even picturisation of this ‘two-in-one’ song is on the same location and Asha Parekh is sitting on the parapet wall almost through the completion of the song.
By the way, there may be some more ‘two-in-one’ songs and creating a new category of such songs based on two different tunes may be in order 🙂

Loved this one “In my book (there are many who follow the same book) Shammi Kapoor has been given immunity from charges of eve teasing, while for the same act, people like Rajendra Kumar would be taken up” …. so true 😀
I have the hugest crush on him and if he’d ever teased me I would’ve been floored 🙂

When I saw this farmaish on your blog, it made me very happy because I love this song!
This movie is full of fun songs and this one is right up there. Catchy, foot-tapping stuff.
Shammi had his image makeover with Tumsa Nahin Dekha – and this movie further confirmed to him that he was exactly on the right track with his new image. After that he never looked back. 🙂
