Toote huye khwaabon ne hamko ye sikhaayaa hai

Though I have posted as many as six songs from “Madhumati” already, I need to post other songs from this movie as well, seeing that this movie has so many wonderful songs in it.
Here is another song from this movie. While most songs in the movie are sung by Lata and picturised on Vyjyanti Mala, here is a song that is sung by Rafi and picturised on Dilip Kumar. Here in this song, Dilip Kumar is missing Vyjyanti Mala and sings this song to express his feelings.
Shailendra is the lyricist and Salil Chaudhary composed the music.

Song-Toote huye khwaabon ne hamko ye sikhaayaa hai (Madhumati) (1958) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Salil Chaudhary
Lyrics
toote huye khwaabon ne
hamko ye sikhaayaa hai
dil ne,
dil ne jise paayaa thaa,
aankhon ne ganwaayaa hai
toote huye khwaabon ne
hamko ye sikhaayaa hai
dil ne,
dil ne jise paayaa thaa,
aankhon ne ganwaayaa hai
toote huye khwaabon ne
ham dhoondhte hain unko,
jo milke nahin milte
ham dhoondhte hain unko,
jo milke nahin milte
roothe hain na jaane kyun,
mehmaan wo mere dil ke
mehmaan wo mere dil ke
kyaa apni tamannaa thi,
kyaa saamne aayaa hai
dil ne,
dil ne jise paayaa thaa,
aankhon ne ganwaayaa hai
toote huye khwaabon ne
hamko ye sikhaayaa hai
dil ne,
dil ne jise paayaa thaa,
aankhon ne ganwaayaa hai
toote huye khwaabon ne
laut aayi sadaa meri,
takraa ke sitaaron se
laut aayi sadaa meri,
takraa ke sitaaron se
ujdi huyi duniyaa ke,
sunsaan kinaaron se
sunsaan kinaaron se
par ab ye tadapnaa bhi,
kuchh kaam na aayaa hai
dil ne,
dil ne jise paayaa thaa,
aankhon ne ganwaayaa hai
toote huye khwaabon ne
hamko ye sikhaayaa hai
dil ne,
dil ne jise paayaa thaa,
aankhon ne ganwaayaa hai
toote huye khwaabon ne

salil da couldn’t use his favorite singers mukesh saheb or talat saheb, and used rafi saheb for high pitch of the song and created a gem of a song for everyone involved and listeners.

Superub.
In this movie Salil Chaudhary used both Rafi and Mukesh for Dilip Kumar, and both sounded equally good.
But, Lata stole the show. She was just too good with “Aaja re pardesi”, “ghadi ghadi mora dil dhadke”, “Bichua Bichua” and “Zulmi sung aankh ladi”
Last one is coming in Farmaish Section 🙂
