Chaand ko dekho ji

There are people who preach us to save for a rainy day. If you talk to me about saving for a rainy day,I will reel off the list of songs picturised on a rainy day to try and prove that rainy days are as much fun as sunny days. If one does not save for a sunny day, then why should one do so for a rainy day ? One should instead enjoy rainy days by getting drenched in the rain instead of hiding indoors. Next thing you know, the same people may ask us to save for a moonlit night saying that nights are for going to bed !
Moonlit nights offer even more scope for great songs than does rainy days. And I lovingly describe these songs as “Chhaayaageet” songs. These songs are typically sung late at night, when moon is there in the sky, and streets are empty, and one is in a romantic mood. Listening to a “Chhaayaageet” song on this occasion, replete with words like “Chaand”, “Jaadoo”,”Bheegi bheegi” etc is a divine experience.
Here is a superb “Chhaayaageet” song from a movie called “Chaand Mere Aaja” (1960). This song is sung by Lata and Rafi. The song is picturised on Nanda and Bharat Bhushan. I C Kapoor is the lyricist and Chitragupta composed the A grade music of this B grade movie.
