Dil todna kisi ka ye zindagi nahin hai

Lata-Madan Mohan songs are always a delight to listen to.”Pooja Ke Phool” (1964) has several such songs in it. I have already posted one such song from this movie.
Here is another Lata-Madanmohan song from “Pooja Ke Phool” (1964). Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.
I find the picturisation of this song quite interesting. Mala Sinha is drawing water from a well. Now, most women drawing water from a well will be dressed in simple clothes, and would go about the job in silence. But not Mala Sinha. She is dressed in her fineries as if she is going to a party. Not content with just drawing water from the well, she decides to multi task and busrt into a song. And this is not a song by those minding their own business. This song is meant for the ears of Dharmendra. In this song she gives Dharmendra a piece of her mind.
“Dil todna kisi ka ye zindagi nahin hai” is the dressing down that Mala Sinha gives to Dharmendra, who apparently is not treating Nimmi well. Nimmi is also visible in the picturisation.
The picturisation is quite interesting really. And it reminds us of days just a few decades ago when people would think nothing of drinking unfiltered water from well, river, ponds etc. Come to think of it, the situation has not changed much for millions even today.
But it is the fist time that I have seen a lady drawing water from a well in a Hindi movie song. Are there more songs like this ? If so, then that will give me the opportunity of opening another category of songs called “drawing water from well”. Well, let us see.

Song-Dil todna kisi ka ye zindagi nahin hai (Pooja Ke Phool) (1964) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan
Lyrics
zara thahar
zara thahar
tujhe samjhaaun
zindagi kyaa hai
jo aaj tak naa mili tujhko
wo khaushi kyaa hai
dil todna kisi ka
ye zindagi nahin hai
dil todna kisi ka
ye zindagi nahin hai
gham doosre ka le le
kyaa ye khushi nahin hai
chal is tarah ke jaise
chaltin hain ye hawaayen
chal is tarah ke jaise
chaltin hain ye hawaayen
phoolon ko ye khilaayen
baagon ko ye basaayen
apne liye jiye jo
wo aadmi nahin hai
dil todna kisi ka
ye zindagi nahin hai
jis par udaasiyaan hon
us honth ko hansi de
jis par udaasiyaan hon
us honth ko hansi de
de kar karaar apnaa
badle mein bekali le
tera dil hai ik khazaana
tujhe kuchh kami nahin hai
dil todna kisi ka
ye zindagi nahin hai
wo chaand ho yaa sholaa
donon mein noor dekhaa
wo chaand ho yaa sholaa
donon mein noor dekhaa
lekin jise bhi dekhaa
shole se door dekha
jo phhoonk de kisi ko
wo raushni nahin hai
dil todna kisi ka
ye zindagi nahin hai
gham doosre ka le le
kyaa ye khushi nahin hai

As unbelievable as it may sound, I had not heard or seen this song before (I have a list of pretty much every song Dharam is featured in –at least I thought I did.)
I just thought of a new “rebuked Dharam” category for my playlists. The man is even cuter when he’s being scolded.
