Saanjh ki belaa jiyaa akelaa
Posted on: October 16, 2010
“Chandralekha”(1948) was a Hindi remake of Gemini’s movie of the same name in South Indian languages (Tamil and Telugu) and all these versions turned out to be hugely popular and this encouraged Gemini and other South Indian production houses to foray into production of Hindi movies in future.
The music of this Hindi movie was quite popular too. The original music director of the South Indian version, viz S Rajeshwar Rao was the music director of the Hindi version too. Pt Indra was the lyricist.
Here is a romantic duet from this movie. It is sung by Uma Devi (Tuntun) and T A Moti. It is picturised on T R Rajkumari and Ranjan. I hope I have got the name of the male actor right.
Here is this lovely song from a lovely movie.

Lyrics
o o o o o
o o o o o
o o o o o
saanjh ki belaa
saanjh ki belaa
jiyaa akelaa
gun-gun-gun kyaa gaaye
gun-gun-gun kyaa gaaye
main khadi akeli
main khadi akeli
yaad kisi ki
aaye aaye aaye
saanjh ki belaa aaa aaa
baag mein bhanwre
jhoom rahe hain
jhoom rahe hain
baag mein bhanwre
jhoom rahe hain
jhoom rahe hain
kaliyon ke munh
choom rahe hain
choom rahe hain
more bhanwre
aa jaa aa jaa re
more bhanwre
aa jaa aa jaa re
ye kali teri kumhlaaye
haaye haaye
saanjh ki belaa
aa aa aa aa
ab na piyaa mujhko
tarsaawo aawo
ab na piyaa mujhko
tarsaawo aawo
prem sudhaa barsaawo
aa aawo
praan papeehaa
praan papeehaa
piyaa-piyaa kar
praan papeehaa
piyaa-piyaa kar
preetam tujhe bulaaye
aaa aaa aaa
ke jise dhoondhte phirte thhey
more nainaa
more nainaa
ke jise dhoondhte phirte thhey
more nainaa
more nainaa
wo yahaan chhupi hai
more man ki mainaa
mainaa
ham rooth gaye
kuchh bhi naa baat karenge
baat karenge
ham rooth gaye
kuchh bhi naa baat karenge
baat karenge
ham roothne waalon ke nakhre bhi sahenge
sahenge
to pyaar bhare nainon se hamen lubhaao
koi pyaar bhare hirday mei hamein basaayo
ae ae ae ae ae
o o o o o

Wonderful rendition by these singers of yore. Commendable work bringing all these songs out of the unknown.
Kindly correct the name of the movie to Chandralekha in the first line of the write-up.
