I just realised that today 31st october is S D Burman’s death anniversary.He was born on the first of october, 1906 and he died on 31st of october 1975.
S D Burman was a genius, of that there is no doubt. He was highly respected by lay persons as well as experts, including his peers.
S D Burman is remembered not only for his music but also for his singing. He had a unique singing style and his songs unfailingly touched the heart strings of the listeners.
In this blog, I have discussed quite a few songs composed by S D Burman (207 to be exact) as well as songs sung by S D Burman (8 songs to be exact). S D Burman sang very few songs, but all these songs went on to become immortal.
Here is an immortal song from “Sujata” (1959). It is a background song as well as boat song. The picturisation shows Sunil Dutt interacting with a coy Nutan, while this song plays in the background.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist of this song.

S D Burman’s singing always fills me with deep, oeverwhelming sense of sadness. I don’t know why this is, I love his music and the songs that he has sung, but it always takes a toll listening to him, so it is not something that I do too often.
Just his genius I guess!

He does these boat songs a lot and it seems much philosophy is dispensed on boats. So his songs have this quality.

oh my gosh i remembered the whole song. got the tune right and every nuance of the song,
actually i first always sing the song that is posted and then listen to it to see if i still remember it. that is y i am regular visitor to this blog. pullin atul’s leg and finding his mistakes is only secondary for me.
