I have discussed as many as five songs from “Sainyyan” (1951) and I thought I had discussed them all. But now I find, much to my pleasant surprise, that there are more songs in this movie. In fact, I have covered only half the songs of this movie, as this movie has ten songs in it. Ten Sajjad Hussain compositions in one movi ! It means that the working conditions during the making of this movie met with Sajjad Hussain’s approval and he did not feel the need to walk out of this movie in a huff unlike quite a few other movies of those days. And the songs that he composed are such delightful songs.
This movie “Sainyyan” (1951) had ten songs, and all are solo songs. Eight of them are sung by Lata and picturised on Madhubala. One is sung by Rafi and picturised on Ajit. The song under discussion is not sung by the two above mentioned singers. Rather this song is sung by Shamshad Begam and it is picturised on Cuckoo. The song is picturised as a dance song performed in the court of a ruler. The song is watched by the rulers as well as other dignitaries, including Madhubala, Ajit, Sajjan, etc.
The lyrics are written by Rajinder Krishan.
The song is a fantastic song to listen to. I have discovered this song only recently, and I find listening to this song a divine experience. A song like this is timeless and it deserves to be better known among music lovers.
