Meri beri ke ber mat todo

This is a song that is today known to the present generation thanks to a remix song. When I saw/ heard this remix song, then the first think that came to my mind was- why they cannot make their own original music. And in case they have to use old songs, why they should not acknowledge this fact somewhere. Plagiarism is plagiarism, and it is blatant plagiarism because the golden era songs, which are being used as source material for these remixes are still fresh in the mind of music lovers.
As if plagiarism itself is not enough, the picturisation of this remix (and most other remixes) is in poor taste as well.
Well, this blog is not about the remixes, and never will be. This blog is about the golden era songs of Hindi movies which continue to bring pleasure to music lovers even today and will contibnue to do so long after the present day fad of remixes is over.
I remember listening to this song for the first time in early 1970s (perhaps 1971). The occasion was Durga puja celebrations, and this song was blaring out of the loudspeaker of the local durga puja pandal. I was not aware about the details of the song. Even those days I could identify the various singers by voice and I identified this singer as Asha Bhonsle.
The fact that this song was sung by Asha Bhonsle was all the information that I had for the next three decades and more. Only when the remix of this song came up and I began writing about old movie songs in my blogs that I came to know about the details of this song. It was then that I found out that this song was from “Anokhi raat” (1968). What great songs this movie had. I had been listening to the songs of this movie like Oh re taal mile nadi ke jal se , Mile na phool to kaanton se dosti kar li(Anokhi raat), Mehlon ka raaja milaa ke raani beti raaj karegi (Anokhi Raat) and this song for years and all these days, I was tortally unaware about the fact that all these songs were from this less known movie called “Anokhi Raat” (1968).
This song “na na na meri beri se ber mat todo” is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Aruna Irani. Indeewar is the lyricist and Roshan is the music director.
I have listened to this song in the past, but like many listeners I only pay attention to the first few lines and that is about it. While noting the lyrics of this song down, I realised that the lyrics of this song were high class poetry indeed. Indeewar has come up with inspired lyrics to what was a normal situation in this movie. Asha Bhonsle has sung this song with gusto and Roshan’s music is outstanding. And the sum total of all this is that this song has gone on to become an all time hit and one which became a remixers’ favourite song as well.
Listen to this song, and watch its picturisation. If you are like me, you will agree that the imitations come nowhere close to this original song which is an inspired creation of sheer genius.

Completely agree with you Atul Ji. I just hate these remixes of any form.
