Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Wo raat din wo shaam ki guzri huyi kahaaniyaan

Posted on: November 22, 2010

Sajjad Hussain composed about 100 songs in Hindi movies and I have been trying to locate as many of these songs as I can and discuss them in this blog.

So far I have discussed 42 such songs and locating the remaining songs is turning out to be a tall order since those songs are rare songs. Still, I have managed to find a few such rare songs. I guess that I will be able to locate another 5 to 10 odd songs before I will reach a dead end.

Here is another cause for celebration (Read, I have managed to locate another Sajjad Hussain song). This song is from “Sainyya” (1951). I was under the impression that “Sainyya” (1951) only had 6 songs that I had already covered, and so it came a pleasant surprise for me when I came across this seventh song from this movie.

Here is this song which is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Madhubala. D N Madhok is the lyricist.

Like most other Sajjad Hussain songs, this song too has a soothing effect on the minds of the listeners. I in fact call such songs as “mental massage” songs.

Song-Wo raat din wo shaam ki guzri huyi kahaaniyaan (Sainyya) (1951) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD- Sajjad Hussain

Lyrics

wo raat din wo shaam ki
guzri huyi kahaaniyaan
wo raat din wo shaam ki
guzri huyi kahaaniyaan
jo tere ghar mein chhod di
pyaar ki sab nishaaniyaan
wo raat din wo shaam ki
guzri huyi kahaaniyaan

sabr-o-qaraar chhin gayaa,
ghar thaa so wo bhi lut gayaa
sabr-o-qaraar chhin gayaa,
ghar thaa so wo bhi lut gayaa
yaad rahengi umr bhar
aap ki meharbaaniyaan
wo raat din wo shaam ki
guzri huyi kahaaniyaan
jo tere ghar mein chhod di
pyaar ki sab nishaaniyaan

aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa aaa
aaye bhi aur chale gaye
din mere bahaar ke
aaye bhi aur chale gaye
din mere bahaar ke
ab hain khizaan ki god mein
roti huyi jawaaniyaan
wo raat din wo shaam ki
guzri huyi kahaaniyaan
jo tere ghar mein chhod di
pyaar ki sab nishaaniyaan

aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa
aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa
wo raat

Somehow Madhubala doesn’t appear convincing singing a melancholy song dressed as an unglamorous village belle. She does a number in Mughal-e-Azam convincingly though.
