Karke badnaam meri neendein haraam

Posted on: January 2, 2011

Though I have discussed nearly 20 % of all the Madan Mohan songs already, there are still lots and lots of Madan Mohan songs that are yet to come to my notice. I have so far discussed songs from 67 movies in which Madan Mohan composed movies. It means that as many as 25 movies with Madan Mohan’s music are still to get covered in this blog.

Here is a song from one such movie. This movie is “Baaghi” (1953). I have little idea about the actors who worked on this obscure movie.

The song is sung by Lata and Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

Song-Kar ke badnaam meri neendein haraam (Baaghi) (1953) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

aundhe munh
kartin hain duniyaa
tere naakaam ke saath
jal ke leti hai
mera naam
tere naam ke saath

kar ke badnaam
meri neendein haraam
kahaan chalaa gayaa
tu kahaan chalaa gayaa
kar ke badnaam
meri neendein haraam
kahaan chalaa gayaa
tu kahaan chalaa gayaa

karne ko baaten karoon
tujhse khayaalon mein
phir bhi na maane dil
to kyaa karoon
kab tak bhi baat karoon
ashqon se palkein
kab tak judaayi mein
aahen bharoon
jabse huyi shaam
mujhe rone se kaam
kahaan chalaa gayaa
tu kahaan chalaa gayaa
kar ke badnaam
meri neendein haraam
kahaan chalaa gayaa
tu kahaan chalaa gayaa

bhatke nazar meri
ban mein chaman mein
chain main dil ka kahin bhi paaun naa
dil mein bhadak chale sholey judaayi ke
haaye inhin mein kahin jal jaaun naa
nahin badnaam kahin
tera hi naam
kahaan chalaa gayaa
tu kahaan chalaa gayaa
kar ke badnaam
meri neendein haraam
kahaan chalaa gayaa
tu kahaan chalaa gayaa

Baghi had a beautiful Lata song Hamare baad mehfil mein ab afsaane bayaan honge/Bahaarein humko dhoodengi na jaane hum kahan honge, bearing some resemblance to Baharein phir bhi ayengi magar hum tum juda honge from the film Lahore (1949) composed by Shyam Sundar. While the latter is quite well known, it is surprising the former remained obscure, though after hearing it I unhesitatingly rank it among Madan Mohan’s best. Fortunately the song is on Youtube, and you may like to put it here.
