“Fighting Queen”(1956) was produced and directed by Nari Ghadiyali for N K G Productions, Bombay.This stunt movie had Nadia, John Cavas, Pramila, Shaikh, Habib, Shamim Chaudhary, Noorjahan, Anjum, Hanuman, Mustafa, Azeem, Ahmed, S.Jahangir, Shankar-Shambhu Qawwaal etc in it.
“Fighting Queen”(1956) had eight songs in it. Though it was a movie whose story was inspired by Western movies where a female Robinhood/ Zorro like character saves public from the tyranny of the local baddy, the movie still managed to have desi style songs.
Here is the third song from “Fighting Queen”(1956) to appear in the blog. This Mubarakj Begam solo song sounds like a mujra dance song. There should ideally be no space for a mujra song in a movie like this, but if this movie could include a qawwaali (already covered in the blog), then the movie could as well have a mujra dance song.
My wild guess is the lyricist was in his comfort zone while writing shayari, so he might have ended up writing a mujra sounding lyrics whereas the requirement could well have been to pen a bar dance kind of song. We may not know
how this song was picturised unless someone who watched this movie and this song could throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Saba Afghani is the lyricist. Music was composed by Nisar Bazmi who was a B grade music composer in India, but when he shifted to Pakistan, he found himself becoming the top A grade music director there.
