A few hours ago, I came across a lovely song from a very old movie. Here is this song, which is sung by Kanan Devi, and I guess that this song is picturised on her as well. Aarzoo Lucknowi is the lyricist and music is composed by R C Boral.
The movie is called “Jawaani Ki Reet” (1939).
Though I have got much of the lyrics right (I hope), there are a few words where I have got stuck. I request my readers with keener ears to point out the errors/missing words as applicable.

What a wonderful song, what a gem. The music, the lyrics and the rendition by Kanan Devi, all a superb creation. Thanks for bringing out such a beautiful song. I often wonder how would I have ever come to enjoy such masterpieces, were it not for your effort and interest.
Some corrections for lyrics, as I could decipher.

should be
mat paltaa di
rut paltaa di

The word “mat” is used in the context of mind, thinking – my thinking is transformed.
bhola mukhdaa ?? chitwan
dekh ke dhokhaa paayaa
should be
bhola mukhdaa chaturi chitwan
dekh ke dhokhaa khaayaa
bhola mukhda – apparently harmless external appearance
chaturi chitwan – clever and cunning inside
dekh ke dhokhaa paayaa – I am deceived by such pretensions.
Still working on
ghar se niklaa aag ka ???
I could make out that the word ‘aag’ is probably ‘aankh’, given the context of the following line
nainan jal barsaayaa
But let me spend some more time on savoring this song, then I may revert on this missing word. 🙂

It sounds like ‘jaduyee chitwan’. Kindly confirm. ‘Chaturi chitwan’ may be in place, but was not in vogue. I do not feel like challenging the authority of Sudhir, who is doing a fine job. The corrections suggested by him should be incorporated in the body of the song.

I have been mesmerised by the song for decades, but never full understood the words. Such clever poetry, Now with clarity of words I am able to appreciate it more. I hear Bhola mukra jadu chitwan, which could also mean , innocent face, crafty trickster.. just my thought.

In this song the words man and dheer are two separate words and not one;meaning that the patience of mind is gone (ofcourse because of the lover).
