Nazar mein bijli adaa mein sholey

After a long time, here is another song of the much loved genre- viz a Rafi -Shammi Kapoor song. This song is from “Prince” (1969) which is one of the last Shammi Kapoor style movies after which the days of Shammi Kapoor movies was over. It was good while lasted. And these movies continue to enthrall the movie watchers even today.
Here is this car song where Shammi Kapoor is teasing Vyjyanti Mala. Bright coloured car,Shammi Kapoor singing this song while “seated” on the rear seat, then the singing continuing in the garden around trees- this old style romancing is still charming to watch. If you are like me, you will yearn for those days more than 40 years ago when life was relatively simple and uncomplicated. While most people notice Shammi Kapoor, Vyjyanti Mala and the car, I also notice the fact that the roads and the places by its side appear so decongested and spacious. And romancing a lady this old fashioned way may still pay dividends, I would like to think.
This song is sung by Rafi with his customary gusto. Shankar Jaikishan is the music director. Farooque Kaiser is the lyricist. I have no idea how and why Shankar Jaikishan used Farooque Kaiser for writing the lyrics of this song instead of using their usual lyricist viz Hasrat Jaipuri. Perhaps our knowledgeable readers will be able to throw light on this matter.

Song-Nazar mein bijli adaa mein sholey (Prince) (1969) Singer- Rafi, Lyrics-Farooque Kaisar, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
nazar mein bijli adaa mein shole
janaab-e-aali main sadke jaawaan
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
o gusse waali main sadke jaawaan
nazar mein bijli adaa mein shole
janaab-e-aali main sadke jaawaan
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
o gusse waali main sadke jaawaan
kabhi to hamko salaam kar lo
kabhi to poochho ke haal kyaa hai
kabhi to hamko salaam kar lo
kabhi to poochho ke haal kyaa hai
ye husn tumko diyaa Khudaa ne
tumhaaraa ismein kamaal kyaa hai
nazar mein bijli adaa mein shole
janaab-e-aali main sadke jaawaan
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
haan
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
o gusse waali main sadke jaawaan
teraa ye aashiq teraa deewaanaa
zamaane bhar se judaa hai pyaare
teraa ye aashiq teraa deewaanaa
zamaane bhar se judaa hai pyaare
labon pe mere jo aa gayi hai
wo tere dil ki sadaa hai pyaare
nazar mein bijli adaa mein shole
janaab-e-aali main sadke jaawaan
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
haay
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
o gusse waali main sadke jaawaan
guroor tera main tod doongaa
ye naaz tera nahin sahoongaa
guroor tera main tod doongaa
ye naaz tera nahin sahoongaa
jo pyaar se tu ye jaan maange
kasam Khuda ki main jaan doongaa
nazar mein bijli adaa mein shole
janaab-e-aali main sadke jaawaan
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
zaraa palat ke idhar to dekho
o gusse waali main sadke jaawaan

Farooq Kaiser was a personality of many facets.Besides writing Lyrics for films,he was screenplay writer(Pather Dil 1985),Dialogue writer(Ilzam1970),Production manager(Ujala 1959) and Chief Asstt.Director(Prince,Lal Pathar,Prem Kahani and Rocky).
It is possible that as he was Ch.Asstt.Dir to Lekh Tandon,Director of Eagle Films’ Prince, his lyrics were used in this film.May be !
There are 2 more songs of FK in Prince,a duet of Rafi/Lata-Bachke jaane and a solo of Rafi-Madhosh hawa.
