Naach re man badkamma
Posted April 1, 2011
on:I have discussed as many as five songs from “Rajkumar” (1964) so I naturally got complacent (like a good Indian cricket fan 🙂 )and thought that I had discussed all the songs from this movie.
And like complacent Indian cricket fans, I too get proved wrong quite frequently. For instance, I found that there was one song from this song that I was not even aware of !
Here is this song from “Rajkumar” (1964). It is a dance song where a huge village gathering (with Omprakash the chief seated in his throne) have assembled to watch the dance performance.
The dance is performed by several people, and two of them are the chief dancers, who get to lip sync in the voices of Asha Bhonsle and Lata. I can identify Sadhana as one of the chief dancers, but who is the other ? I request my knowledgeable readers to help identify her (and others).
Shailendra is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan is the music director.
PS-The reason why I am not finding time to discuss as many songs as I would like is that the cricket world cup is on and my team (much to my pleasant surprise) is still in contention. So I request my readers to be a bit patient till tomorrow, which is the day of the final. Based on the result of the final, I may decide to post sad or happy songs- as the case may be. 🙂

naach re man badkammaa

thumak-thumak badkammaa
paayal meree boley
laaj ke ghoonghat kholey
ho paayal meree boley
ho jo dekhe rah jaaye
dil kee duniyaa doley
ho
dil kee duniyaa doley
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa
main bhee naachoon tu bhi naache
har koi naache badkammaa
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa
mausam hai matwaalaa
ho neend udaane waalaa
ho mausam hai matwaalaa
aa tan-man rangtaa jaaye
ik-ik rang niraalaa
ho
ik-ik rang niraalaa
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa
main bhee naachoon tu bhi naache
har koi naache badkammaa
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa
dil lut jaanaa chaahe
mit-mit jaanaa chaahe
ho dil lut jaanaa chaahe
ho aaj kisi ke dil se dil takraanaa chaahe
ho
dil takraanaa chaahe
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa
main bhee naachoon tu bhi naache
har koi naache badkammaa
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa
main bhee naachoon tu bhi naache
har koi naache badkammaa
naach re man badkammaa
thumak-thumak badkammaa

Ah but Raja ji,
hain sab se madhur wo geet jinhen
hum dard ke sur mein gaate hain
(from the iconic song from film Patita).
(Not that I don’t want India to win. LOL 🙂 🙂 )

Something about the word Badkamma.
Bathakamma is the name of a Deity in Telangana area of Andhra Pradesh comprising of Hyderabad and other districts. There is a festival of Bathkamma, when women dance and sing songs of Bathakamma.
Shankar Singh of S-J team was from Hyderabad area and has used Telugu words in some of his songs. One famous song is ‘Ramaiyya wastavaiyya'(the meaning is will you come Ramaiyya?).The word Bathkamma is used in some other songs too.One song of Mehmood also became famous, where he repeats,Bathkamma,Bathkamma.
As I originally come from Hyderabad,my memories are aroused
having seen the Bathkamma dance and song in reality !

Atul ji,
Still missing one more song from this movie, and that is the title song “jaane waalo zaraa hoshiyaar yahaan ke hum hain rajkumar”.
As a child, my favorites to memorize were the Shammi Kapoor solos. I remember as a pre teen kid, I used to be much in demand at family gatherings, to perform these songs. 🙂
I have just sent you the link and lyrics for it, in email.

I had no idea what this badkammaa meant until today. One always learns something new every day!
Good luck for tomorrow, Atul! I hear the Sri Lankan team is a formidable one, so I am also hoping to hear happy songs tomorrow. I am wondering if there is any song that goes, Hum jeet gaye, woh haar gaye … ?
