Look what a remarkable gem I discovered just a few hours ago ! This song is from “Pardesi” (1957). Though I have discussed two songs from this movie already in the past, I was not aware of the fact that this movie was an Indo Soviet production which was made in Hindi as well as Russian languages. In the movie, a Russian man (played by Oleg Strizhenov) comes to India and falls in love with an Indian village belle, played by Nargis.
The Hindi version of this movie was in black and white while the Russian version was in colour !
Hindi songs were obviously picturised in the Hindi version of the movie. I am not aware if the Russian version too had equivalent songs in Russian.
Some kind soul has used the Russian version of the movie and used Hindi version of the song on the picturisation. The effect is quite spectacular. It shows the villagers, including Nargis enjoying the rain with this song This song is sung by Meena Kapoor and chorus. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. The lilting music, which will make the listeners feel like swaying, if not dancing, is composed by Anil Biswas.
The colour version of the song has only one stanza in it. the song in the black and white Hindi version is slightly longer.

Many hindi film songs have unique feature like they are not duets but sung by two singers. Co-signer’s contribution is negligible though enhances the melodic harmony.
“Rimjhim Barse Paani..” song is sung by Meena Kapoor, Unknown Male singer and chorus. Male singer sings only last line and a alaap in between.
Is it Manna Dey’s voice? Please clarify.
