Vidhi ne dekho birah milan ka kaisa khel rachaayaa

“Ram Rajya” (1967) is a movie that failed to do well at the box office because mainstream audiences of those days (and even today) by and large kept away from religious movies.
Here is a song from “Ram Rajya” (1967). This is a background song that gets played after Seeta is sent out to the forest and a remorseful Ram misses her.
The song is sung by Rafi and Suman Kalyanpur. Bharat Vyas had written the lyrics in shuddh Sanskrised Hindi. Vasant Desai is the music director.

Lyrics
Vidhi ne dekho birha milan ka
kaisa khel rachaayaa
athaah saagar Ram kathaa hai
athaah saagar Ram kathaa hai
paar nahin koi paayaa
Vidhi ne dekho birha milan ka
kaisa khel rachaayaa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
tyaag Siyaa ko Prabhu ke man mein
chhaa gayi ghor udaasi
rajmahal mein rah kar bhi
Raghuveer bane banwaasi
aa aa aa
pal ka bhojan
trin ki shaiyya
neend nahin nainan mein
uthhe hiyaa mein peer pukaare
Siyaa Siyaa
Siyaa Siyaa
Siyaa Siyaa hi man mein
Siya Siya hi man mein
vaidehi ke virah shok mein vyaakul hain Raghuraya
athaah saagar Ram kathaa hai
paar nahin koi paayaa
Ram
Shri Ram
o o
Ram
Shri Ram
yahaan Janki jape nirantar
Ram naam ki mala
rahi chhupaayi man hi man mein
Ram virah ki jwaalaa
Surya dev ki kare archana
Tulsi mein jal daale
gau mata ko tilak kare
Hirnon ke chhaune paaley
kabhi chandra mein Ram chandra ki chhavi ki chalna hoti
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa
kabhi chandra mein Ram chandra ki chhavi ki chalna hoti
darshan pyaasi bhramit baawri
ankhiyaan kabhi na soti
aa aa aa
kaaya se chhaaya bichhdi jyun
Brahm se bichdi maayaa
athaah saagar Ram kathaa hai
paar nahin koi paayaa

Atul ji,
While generally,it is believed that Religious/Mythological presentations do not attrct public support, the facts show a different picture.
Sagar Movietone’s serial RAMAYAN or B.R.Chopra’s MAHABHARAT are clear proof that religious/mythlogical presentations do attract Indian public support,if it is in an interesting mode.Take the case of “SANTOSHI MATA KI KATHA”,another example, where the film was so popular that it not only created records but also saved the producer from bankruptcy.
RAM RAJYA(1967) failed, may be because 1)Kumarsen Samarth doing the role of Rama was already 54 year old and 2) This version was after Ram returns from Lanka and hence all the interesting part like Hanuman’s acts,Seeta Swayanwar and mainly Ram-Ravan Yudh was missing.
Indian Film Trade Association,in their report, once had commented that so far,NO Mythological picture has ever gone in capital loss.
