This evergreen song from “Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai”(1961) wears multiple hats. The song is a multiple version song in the sense that this song is sung independently by two singer, viz Rafi in one version and Lata in another version. The song can be called the title song as well as theme song. The male version of the song is rail song as well.
And needless to say, it is a song of “expression of love” genre as well.
Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Having listened to the audio of the song (especially Rafi version), I thought that the song was picturised on Shammi Kapoor, so I was surprised to find that this movie has Dev Anand and not Shammi Kapoor. Dev Anand is paired with Asha Parekh in this movie.
Here is this timeless classic song which I thought I had discussed long back. The fact that I had not discussed this song was realised by me when nahm sent the lyrics of this song to me.

Multiple hats is apt for this song. Another hat is “Car song”, as Dev Anand is travelling on top of the car while singing. Also iconic in terms of the picturization and treatment , it has inspired a no. of songs famous songs.

In Rafi version the above lines are sung twice, in this particular clip a part is cut. This clip has the full lines :
Shammi kapoor could have fitted well in this song. But try and think how Shammi kapoor would have looked in the other song “Teri Zulfon se judaayi”.

nahm, if shammi can fit in Ehsan tera hoga, tum mujhe youn and dil ke jharoke mein, he can fit in teri zulphoon se too.

I misunderstood this was song picturized on Shammi Kapoor. I was under this impression for a long time and after reading on this blog had a pleasent surprise that its acually picturized on Dev Anand.
I love this song from my childhood, wonderfully sung by Rafi in peppy mood. But its Shammi Kapoor style song all the way like Teri Pyari Pyari Surat Ko which was picturized on Rajendra Kumar.I read Shammi Kapoor interview somewhere that how desperately he wanted the song to be picturized on him.
