Krorepati (alias Millionaire) is a 1936 production from New Theatres Calcutta, directed by Hem Chander. The music compositions for this movie are shared by RC Boral and Pankaj Mullick. There is a total of 12 songs in this movie, of which 4 are composed by RC Boral and 8 by Pankaj Mullick. As fortune would have it, the recordings of all the 8 songs composed by Pankaj Mullick are not available from any source so far.
Krorepati is a social romantic drama; a story of a young lady Leela (Miss Molina) who aspires to be an actress, and is encouraged and helped by a neighbor (Rajkumari), who is an actress. With Panna’s help, Leela joins a film production company, and is on way to become a successful actress. In the same film company, there is a young man Harish (KL Saigal) who is enamored by Leela, and seeks to get close to her. Other main players in this movie are Pahari Sanyal, Trilok Kapoor, Kidar Sharma, Jagdish, Devbala, Asghar Shorey, Nawaab, Babulal etc.
The lyrics for this film are written by Kidar Sharma. This song is composed by RC Boral. The theme of the song is love itself. Love exists everywhere in this creation, love pervades everything in the nature. The poet has tried to capture the feeling of love in the simple artifacts of nature, the flowing breeze, the singing birds, the flowers, the bhanwaraa – everything represents love in this world. A very simple and positive philosophical poetry; rendered so lovingly by Saigal Saab.

Lyrics
jagat mein prem hi prem bhara hai
jagat mein prem hi prem bhara hai
bina prem yahaan kachhu na dharaa hai
bina prem yahaan kachhu na dharaa hai
jagat mein prem hi prem bhara hai
jagat mein prem hi prem bhara hai
sheetal pawan chaley jab aalee

jhoom ke gaavat daali daali
jhoom ke gaavat daali daali
jagat mein prem hi prem bhara hai
jagat mein prem hi prem bhara hai
koel ban mein shor machaave
koel ban mein shor machaave
pee ke geet papeehaa gaave
koel ban mein shor machaa
aaa aaa aaa aaa
koel ban mein shor machaave
pee ke geet papeehaa gaave
bhanwaraa phoolon ko samjhaave
bhanwaraa phoolon ko samjhaave

New Theatre had special fascination for the word Prem and concept of love, which was for them transcendental and divine. They had several beautiful songs based on Prem. You may like to visit my blog to read my article New Theatres’ romance with Prem, in which this song also features.
