Tum arbon ka her pher karne waale raam jee
Posted on: July 18, 2011
I have heard this song quite a few times, but all these days I never knew which movie this song was from.
Now, thanks to the lyrics of this song that were sent to me by nahm, now I am aware that this song is from “Chori Chori” (1956).
In a movie where Manna Dey is the main male playback singer, this song is sung by Rafi. This song is a fun song with funny lyrics where Bhagwan and his wife (who is the lady ?) fantasise of the day when they will win a lottery.
The song is sung by Rafi and Lata. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Hasrat Jaipuri and Shailendra were the lyricists in this movie and there are confusing informations about the lyricist of this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the lyricist of this song and also on the identity of the lady lip syncing this song.
PS-She is Rajasulochana, as mentioned by several knowledgeable readers.

The lady is (Telugu) South Indian actress, Rajasulochana.
The movie Chori-Chori is essentially a South Indian production from the mightty AVM studios. Thus the insertion of Rajasulochana (for a fairly lengthy part), a Bharata Natyam bit, a lttle bit of Madras Scenery. Remember the major part of the movie takes place with Nargis trying to go from Madras to Bangalore to meet with Pran.

I like this song! I am just thinking that it is a sign of the times that “sawa lakh ki lottery …” will definitely not be enough these days to get a “bangla sitaaron mein”, more likely a one bedroom flat in the outskirts of the big cities! My first pay check was for Rs. 975.00, and that was considered a princely sum in those days, and I can hear some people laughing out there at this amount! Thanks for this song, which reminds me of those times, Atul!

Atul ji,
The lady in question is indeed RAJASULOCHANA,a Telugu actress married to Telugu’s famous Director C.Sreenivasa Rao(Mr.Rao died on 8-12-2004).
Rajasulochana was a special friend of the boss A.V.Meiyappan and he was trying to push her in Hindi films. It was rumoured that due to this only, this song and dance item was thrust in Chori Chori, even if it did look like a patch, having no connection to the picture story in any manner !
Rajasulochana was a good dancer/actress and acted in some 80 odd Telugu,Kannada and Tamil movies.
She acted/danced also in few Hindi movies like, Aayi phirse Bahar,Alladin ka chirag,Naya aadami,Raja Rani,Sitaronse aagey.
Her most famous movie was “Idduru Mitrulu” (Two Friends),a Telugu hit of 1961,with the great NTRama Rao.
In 1963,she founded a Dancing school in Madras. She now stays in Madipakkam,Chennai-4.

Atul ji,
The lyricists for this song is Shailendra.
The ‘sawa lakh ki lottery’ that is the topic of this song, is actually the prize money for giving information about the runaway daughter of a rich man. In the movie, Nargis, daughter of a rich businessman played by Gope, runs away from her home, because she is not being allowed to marry the person she wants to. Her father puts out an advertisement in the newspapers, offering ‘sawa lakh’ in return for information about his daughter. In her adventures, Nargis has met a part time reporter (Raj Kapoor), and they have passed through the village where Bhagawan and Rajasulochana live. So that is the reason that this couple is so happy, that they have some information to give to the lady’s father.
The movie is based on the original Hollywood romantic comedy, “It Happened One Night”, a fabulous 1934 Frank Capra production starring Clark Gable and Caludette Coblert.
