We have been discussing K L Saigal songs regularly for the last two months, and now we have reached such a stage that all the remaining Hindi songs sung by K L Saigal songs can be covered in the next five or six weeks. Yes, we have come a long way in discussing K L Saigal songs in this blog.
Many of K L Saigal songs have been songs of serious nature . But it does not mean that he has only sung serious songs. He has sung fun songs too. The same lyricists and music directors who may have created sombre numbers with him have also created fun songs with him.
Here is a light hearted song from “Bhanwraa” (1944). This song, which is sung by K L Saigal is written by Kidar Sharma. Khemchand Prakash is the music director. Notice the words of day to day conversation finding their way in the lyrics of this song.
Only the audio of this song is available, but one can make some guesses about how this song is picturised. I guess that this song comments about the modern way of urban life in India as sought to be popularised by the then British rulers. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
I have also been unable to get a few words right in the lyrics. Readers with keener ears are requested to suggest the right words there.
PS-I thank Mr Atiullah97 and Sudhir for correcting/filling up the missing words in the lyrics.

great upload/song Atul ji,
I think there is need of few corrections in the lyrics as follows :
1.In the second stanza it should be :
Karam Kareem ka hai ,jo safed powder se
Siyah-rukhhon ke andhere mitaaye jaate hain .
(Karam = mercifullness / कृपा
Kareem = One of the name (quality) of Allah/God the mercifull /कृपालु {ईश्वर }
Siyah-rukh = black faced/काले चेहरे वाले
2.In the last stanza it seems to be like this :
Jo kaam maange hain bekaar, car walon se
Baja ke bhonpu bechare daraaye jaate hai .

Saigal’s friend in this film, played by Arun Kumar Ahuja, was the father of the present-day actor Govinda. In most of the films of the 40s, his name in the credit titles appeared as Aroon or Arun. He very rarely used his surname Ahuja. By the way, Arun Ahuja began his acting career with Mehboob Khan’s ‘Aurat’ in 1940. In this film he performed the same role which later Rajkumar was to perform in ‘Mother India’. ‘Aurat’ was the original version of ‘Mother India’.
Arun continued to work in films right till the late 50s, mostly in character roles.

Whether this Arun kumar Ahuja was the same Arun kumar who acted in 1980 movie Payal Ki Jhankar(as an character artiste)(Director:Satyen Bose and music:Raj kamal)(Starcast:Alankar Joshi,Komal Mahuakar,Surinder kaur, Sheil Chaturvedi)(Its a movie about dance and music.Arun kumar acted in a role of Nritya guru or Sangeet ki guru)(Produced by Ruchi films and Rajshree productions pvt.ltd.)
I always thought that this Arun Kumar is Govinda`s father.
Is it possible that he continued his acting career till 1980????
I may be wrong, please correct me, If anybody know about this.

Atul ji,
Bhanwaraa (1944) is produced by Ranjit Movietone, Bombay. The screenplay and direction is by Kedar Sharma. The lyrics of this movie are written by Kidar Sharma, Pt. Indra and Swami Ramanand.
The film is a social comedy. The main actors are KL Saigal, Arun Kumar Ahuja, Kamla Chatterjee, Monica Desai, Yakub, Brijmala, Kesari, Bheema, Amarnath Passan, Vasudev and Baby Mukhtar.
Two young friends, Pancham (played by KL Saigal) and Rekhab (played by Arun Kumar Ahuja) come to the city in search of employment and to make a fortune. The time period is the first half of 1940s. The only accommodation they can find and afford are single rooms on rent basis. Rekhab gets a room that is just underneath a room rented by a body builder pehalwan (played by Yakub). And Pancham gets a room underneath another room, rented by two sisters Bindu (played by Kamla Chatterjee) and Indu (played by Monica Desai), both having a keen interest in dance. Pancham gets a job as a music and singing teacher, only to discover that Indu is also employed at the same place to teach dance. So what follows is a romantic comedy of sorts, on expected lines. Pancham and Indu falls for each other. Rekhab falls for Bindu, but is hesitant to express himself. So the pehalwan comes to his help; with his help, Rekhab builds a great physique and then woos his lady love Bindu. And the two couples finally end up living happily ever after.
