Jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaaraa hai

“Bahu Beti” (1965) is a movie that has Joy Mukherji and Mala Sinha in lead roles. I have no idea how the movie fared in the box office, but the songs of this movie are nice to listen to.
Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Rafi. It is picturised on Joy Mukherji and Mala Sinha.
The lyrics (written by Sahir Ludhianvi) are quite inspirational. The lyrics basically tells that one should live life to the fullest and with the knowledge that one does not take anything with himself/herself when it is time to leave the world.
Quite a philosophical stuff indeed.
Ravi is the music director. Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Song-Jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumharaa hai (Bahu Beti) (1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Ravi
Lyrics(Provided by nahm)
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
maro aise ke jaise tumhaara kuchh bhi nahin
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
ye ek raaz ke duniya na jisko jaan saki
yehi wo raaz hai jo zindagi ka haasil hai
tumhi kaho tumhen ye baat kaise samjhaaoon
ke zindagi ki ghutan zindagi ki qaatil hai
ke zindagi ki ghutan zindagi ki qaatil hai
har ek nigaah to qudrat ka ye ishaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
jahaan mein aa ke jahaan se khinche-khinche na raho
wo zindagi hi nahi jis mein aas bujh jaaye
koyi bhi pyaas dabaaye se dab nahin sakti
isi se chain milegaa ke pyaas bujh jaaye
isi se chain milegaa ke pyaas bujh jaaye
ye keh ke mudta hua zindagi ka dhaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo
ye aasmaan yeh zameen ye fizaa yeh nazaare
yeh aasmaan yeh zameen ye fizaa yeh nazaare
taras rahen hain tumhaari meri nazar ke liye
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
maro aise ke jaise tumhaara kuchh bhi nahin
jiyo to aise jiyo jaise sab tumhaara hai
jiyo to aise jiyo

Joy Mukherjee is also gone. Died today in a Mumbai hospital. 😦
Just 2 days after Ravi.
Sahir, with his message here, says it all in this Ravi-composed song picturised on Joy Mukherjee.

Atul Saheb, thanks to you for choosing this song, and nahmbhai for providing the text of the lyrics. Bahu Beti was a known movie in our growing-up years. Joy Mukerji was a likeable hero, and Mala Sinha was our favorite. You are right that the lyrics are philosophical. Sahir’s lyrics here come close to Shakeel’s way of thinking and writing. Ultimately, they remain robust and vibrant as well as sweet. Was Sahir asking his own lady love (we do know who that was!) to choose a “shareeq-e-safar” (“safar” being “life”?) as he has been so “qareeb” in his call?

Arif bhai,
Talking about Sahir’s lady love, here is some info-
A bachelor to the end,Sahir fell in love with writer Amrita Pritam(and Sudha Malhotra in later days),relationship which never fructified in the conventional sense and left him sad.
A young Amrita, madly in love with Sahir, wrote his name hundreds of times on a sheet of paper, while addressing a press conference. They would meet without exchanging a word.Sahir would puff away and after his departure,Amrita would smoke the cigarette butts left by him. After his death,Amrita said she hoped the air mixed with the smoke of the butts would travel to the other world and meet Sahir.
Such was their obsession and intensity.

I had always felt that some of the songs he penned during that period came straight from his heart. For instance :
Jane ho kaise log the jinko pyaar se pyaar mila -PYAASA (1957)
Tang aah chuke hain – PYASAA (1957) & LIGHT HOUSE (1958)
Tum mujhe bhool bhi jao – DIDI (1959)
Kabhi khud per khabi haalat pe rona aaya – HUM DONO (1961)
Chalo ek baar phir se ajanabi ban jayein hum dono – GUMRAH (1963)
There would certainly be many more such songs.
