“Sharbati Aankhen” (1945) is by now an extremely obscure movie and very little information is available about this movie. The information that I have been able to gather (and it may be outright wrong too) is that this movie was directed by Ramchandra Thakur and this movie had actors like Vanmala, Ishwarlal, Agha etc.
Thanks to the lyrics of a song of this movie, sent to me by nahm, I now know that this movie had some songs sung by Rafi. these songs are as obscure as the movie itself, and they are of historical importance, because they are among the very first songs sung by Rafi in Hindi movies.
Here is this song “Pyaar karna hi padega” from “Sharbati Aankhen”. Pt Indra Chandra is the lyricist and music is composed by Feroz Nizami. In this song, one finds Rafi singing in his known style which was had yet to become the accepted style of singing in Hindi movies. So it took a lot of courage on the part of Rafi to stick to his own style even in those days instead of taking the easy way out and sing in the then prevailing style of singing.
I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as on the songs of this movie, as very little information is available on this movie online.

SHARBATI ANKHEN(1945),a Wadia Movietone film was produced by Aspi Irani and directed by Ramchandra Thakur.Music was by Firoz Nizami and lyrics were by Tanvir Naqvi,Pt.Indra and Pt.Balam.
The cast included T.R.Rajkumari(heroine),Ishwarlal(hero)Vanmala,Agha,Firoz Dastur,Harish,Kelkar,Aftab,Rajkumari shukla,Sumati Gupte etc.
The story of S.Ankhen revolved round a middle class girl and a very rich boy,whose family owed its riches to the father of the girl’s sacrifices for the grandfather of the boy.However,not knowing this
,there is the customary resistence to this love story.Only towards the end the secret is revealed and all is well.Vanmala,a noted actress in those days had a very small role in the film.

I found this song on earthmusic.net while looking for ‘Aankhen’ song’s singers names. Now i have searched again, there are nine more songs of “Sharbati Ankhen” listed there written among by indra chandra, tanveer naqvi and pt. balam, sung by various singers apart from the two more rafi solos.
