Hindi movie music, especially of the golden era, is like a sea full of gems. Many of these gems are just lying around on the shores and one can keep stumbling upon them without even trying. But if one decides to consciously try and search deep, one can come up with some amazing songs that have been lying undiscovered for decades.
It is not necessary that all these songs are created by big names. Even lesser known artists have created some amazing songs.
I sometimes try to dive deeper in the ocean of Hindi movie music. One of the techniques that I use is finding songs created by lesser known/ unsung artists, and often I come up with priceless booties.
Look what I discovered just mow. Like many of the hidden gems, this song is from a forgotten B grade movie called ‘Fareb” (1968). This is a song which one cannot unearth unless you are consciously searching for this song. That is how well this song has been covered in the muds of obscurity.
This song has two versions/ parts. Part I is sung by Mukesh and it is picturised on Dev Kumar. Yes, Dev Kumar, who is more known for his roles as a villain is the hero of this movie.
Part II is sung by Mukesh and Usha Khanna and it is picturised on Dev Kumar and Fariyaal. Yes, Fariyal, who is more known for her Helenesque roles in Hindi movies was the leading lady in this movie.
This song is a sentimental song and our villain/vamp duo playing hero.heroine are in uncharted waters here where they are called upon to emote.
The lyrics by Asad Bhopali are the real stars of this song as far as I am concerned. What amazing imagination and original ideas he has conjured up in writing this song ! It is an extremely high class poetry. Too bad that not too many people seem to have been exposed to this song.
Usha Khanna, who likewise spent much of her career as an underutilised music director has come up with this amazing composition.
Just listen to this song. If your taste is anything like me, you will wonder where this song was hiding all these days.

The female singer is Suman ji.
Also songs of Fareb (1953) music by Anil da are good too.

As per Geet Kosh, and the record label, the female voice in this song is Usha Khanna indeed.

I thought that the female singer was Usha Khanna until I saw the Suman’s name in the tag. Suman’s voice is somewhat different in this song than her usual ones.

It could be Usha Khanna. I just went by the name mentioned in youtube, which is often wrong. The voice did not sound like Suman Kalyanpur to me too.
Now I have checked it up and it is Usha Khanna indeed.
