This blog at present has songs composed by 165 music directors. Around 30 odd of them could be called major music directors because they had long careers spanning several decades.
All these music directors had their own individual styles and they all enriched Hindi movie music with their compositions.
Among the major music directors, I love the music of Salil Chaudhary. If I know that a song is composed by him, i expect something special and I am never disappointed.
Salil Chaudhary is one of the 18 music directors who has reached his century of songs in this blog. and what wonderful songs he created ! He began his career with “Do Beegha Zameen” (1953) and he was active in Hindi movies for over two decades.
On the occasion of his death anniversary (5th september), here is a masterpiece created by Salil Chaudhary. This song is from “Annadata” (1973). This movie had some superb songs in it and I have in fact discussed as many as four of them- each one of them a masterpiece.
Here is this song from “Annadata”(1972). This song is sung by Lata. Yogesh is the lyricist.
This song is picturised on Jaya Bhaduri and Anil Dhawan who were the leda pair in this movie.

i have been hearing this song for close to 40 years now, and all of a sudden i made a discovery today. actually the song was playing on the radio and i found Lata singing an extra stanza. so i looked up for it and found this audio link having the extra stanza. here goes

Even Previously I’d Given My Response In AtulJi’s Column To Another Song Of The SAME Movie(Raaton Ke Saaye Ghane..)..Beyond Doubt I Regard This Movie(ANNADAATA:1972) As One Of The Top Representative Creations Of SALIL DA….! I Really Fail To Understand: Like Rajnigandha,Chhoti Si Baat,Madhumati,Anand,MereApne,DoBeeghaZameen,Maya..Etc.Etc…..Why Couldn’t The Songs Of Annadaata Come In That MUCH MORE DESERVED WIDER CIRCULATION..? I’m Sure Most Of My Listener Friends,Who’d Been Sensing That Blissful Feel Of SaliDa’s Music Particularly,Will Agree With Me….
