“Devar” (1966) was a De Luxe fims production and it was directed by Mohan Segal. This cast of this movie included names like Dharmendra,SKishore Kumar, Sabita Chatterji,Sharmila Tagore,Deven Verma, Shashikala,Dhumal, Sulochana, Raj Mehra, Sapru, Tarun Bose, Durga Khote etc.
This movie is well known for its evergreen songs. I have so far discussed five songs from this movie.
Here is a lesser known song from this movie. I became aware of this song after its lyrics were sent to me by nahm. This song is a tonga song. Dharmendra and Deven Verma ride a tonga which is driven by Dharmendra. While Dharmendra is driving the tonga, Deven Verma, seated on the passenger seat enquires Dharmendra about the girl in his life. Dharmendra, instead of replying to him in prose, decides that prose will be too prosaic and bursts into this song.
Singing about the girl in his life, while at the same time driving a vehicle is as unsafe as driving while drinking/smoking/talking on mobile, but then Hindi movies , especially those of the 1960s did not pay much attention to road safety rules. The fact that there were very few vehicles around and roads were by and large empty meant that one could get away while driving and singing simultaneously. It helps that the power pack of the vehicle can think and avoid traffic on its own while its driver is mindlessly singing a song. 🙂
This song is sung by Rafi. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Roshan.

It is perfectly safe to sing while driving a tonga. After all the horse is looking where it is going even if the hero is busy singing 😀
There are a few songs from earlier e-mails which are not posted yet. There is a ‘ lori/story telling” song from “Rajput” (On Dharmendra). Also the songs of ‘Tere Ghar ke Saamne” are not posted.
