“Sargam” (1950) is a movie that has been forgotten with time. It was a Filmistan production. It was directed by P L Santoshi and the star cast had names like Rehana, Om Prakash, Mumtaz Ali, Paro, Ratan Kumar, Chandabai, Raj Kapoor, Rajendra, David Abraham, Tabassum, Radha Krishnan, Samson, Vijayalaxmi, Ramsingh, S. L. Puri, Sudesh etc in it.
Musically this movie was quite a magnum opus. I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie. All these songs are works of creative genius.
On the occasion of C Ramchandra’s birthday (12th january), here is another masterclass from “Sargam” (1950). This song is sung by Lata and Saraswati Rane. The song is picturised on Rehana and Paro and many other actors. P L Santoshi is the lyricist and music is composed by C Ramchandra.
This song is a great example of a semiclassical composition that is so pleasing and soothiong to the ears as well as the mind.

Thanks for enlightening me about the second signature song.
I was not aware of it.
As you may have noticed, I had qualified my comment by saying ‘ I think….’ because when a statement comes from you, I have to be doubly sure 🙂

One can also see Bimla kumari(Hawa mein udata jaaye girl) in this VDO.
An interesting thing about this song is that the above song was the signature song on Radio Ceylon in 50s and 60s,for the Sunday night 10pm programme-‘Hamesha jawan geeton ka programme’.

You are also right.My statement should have been “…that the above song was one of the two signature songs…” as there were these 2 songs played one after the another.
