“Barsaat” (1949) was arguably a pathbreaking movie and the music of this movie heralded the arrival of Shankar Jaikishan as the most dominant music composers of Hindi movie for the next two decades. This dominance was finally broken in late 1960s with the arrival of R D Burman.
I have discussed “only” five songs from this movie which obviously does not do justice to a musical blockbuster like “Barsaat” (1949).
Here is another song from this movie. This “lesser” known song from the movie is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nargis. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Song-Ab mera kaun sahaara (Barsaat)(1949) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
mere balam
mere balam
mujhko na bhulaana
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
tujhse bichhad kar door huyi
milne se majboor huyi
tujhse bichhad kar door huyi
milne se majboor huyi
ro ro ke dil ne tujhko pukaara
aa aa
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
tujhse milan ki aas lagi
naina ras ki pyaas lagi
tujhse milan ki aas lagi
naina ras ki pyaas lagi
mujhko hai tera gham bhi pyaara
aa aa
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
pankh lagey udd jaaun main
lekin kaise aaun main
pankh lagey udd jaaun main
lekin kaise aaun main
bebas huyi qismat ne mara
aa aa
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
ab mera kaun sahaara
