“Naagin” (1954) is the original Naagin movie and this movie proved to be the definitive “Naagin” movie of all time. Its “been” music became the gold standard for the music of all snake movies.
Moviegoers of my generation became exposed to snake movies thanks to “Naagin”(1976). Unlike the original “Naagin” (1954), the 1970s movie was a multistarrer, and it was a 1970s style revenge story where the naagin takes revenge from human beings for killing her lover.
The songs of “Naagin” (1976) became quite popular, though I personally regarded them as chaalu songs. Even today I do not regard them as much more than that, but it appears that even the chaalu songs of 1970s have gone on to become all time classic songs for the younger generations.
I had watched this movie in the movie hall, but I do not recall anything about the movie, apart from the fact that Reena Roy played the title role in this movie.
Memsaab recently reviewed this movie in her blog and after reading that review, I grudgingly decided to become an admirer of this movie, or at least of its music.
While deciding to discuss the songs of this movie, I found that I had a wide selection of lyrics to chose from- all songs began either with “Tera” or “Tere”. 🙂
Here is the song “Tere sang pyaar main nahin todna” from “Naagin” (1976). This song has two versions. The duet version, which comes first, is sung by Lata and Mahendra Kapoor. It is picturised on Reena Roy and Jeetendra. Part II of the song is a Lata solo, which is picturised on Reena Roy.
Verma Malik is the lyricist and the music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
When I look back to the music of this movie, I notice that Laxmikant Pyarelal had come up with their own style of lilting “been” music in this movie, which can be heard in all the songs of this including the song under discussion.
