Sab pyaar ki baaten karte hain

Posted on: February 5, 2012

This article is written by Sadanand Kamath, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

I had resolved not to access any Hindi film related websites for few days to enable me to attend to some other pending works which included writing my travel blogs. But the urge to listen to old Hindi film songs was so strong that this resolution was broken in less than 24 hours. It appears that listening to and discovering new ‘gems’ from old Hindi film songs is an addiction for which there is no detoxification therapy. 😀

I feel happy about breaking my resolution as in the event, I discovered a beautiful song sung by Mukesh in the film MATLABI DUNIYAA ( 1961). The song is “sab pyaar ki baaten kartey hain” which I had heard in my younger days without knowing the name of the film. In fact I was not aware of this film. While very little information is available on the IMD website about this film, Indian Film Trade website has given some details. The film had two directors –Radhakant and Mahendra Thakore. I was surprised to find that the film had not one but four music directors – Sushant Banerjee, Jayanti Joshi, Bharat Mehta and Verma Malik which, I guess, may be a sort of record for a Hindi film. Except for Verma Malik who was a lyricist, I have never heard of other three music directors. I feel that there may be some interesting trivia aboutthis film. The said website lists this film as ‘action thriller’ and the star cast as Asha, Dhumal and Satish Vyas.

The song is written by Ramesh Gupta and the music direction is credited to Jayanti Joshi. The meaning of the song is very much relevant in our day to day life. Mukesh’s rendering is a reminiscence of his early 50’s style which is sure to touch the heart of the listeners. Only the audio clip is available.

Song-Sab pyaar ki baaten karte hain (Matlabi Duniya)(1961) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Ramesh Gupta, MD-Jayanti Joshi

Lyrics

aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
wafaayen dekh lin
patthar jigar jaalim jamaane ki
kasam khaayi hai ab hamne
kisi se dil lagaane ki

sab pyaar ki baaten kartey hain
par karna aata pyaar nahin
hai matlab ki duniyaa saari
yahaan koi kisi ka yaar nahin
kisi ko sachcha pyaar nahin

sukh mein sab aa aa kar apne
rishtey naatey batlaatey
rishtey naatey batlaatey
bure dinon mein dekha hamne
aankh bachaakar hain jaatey
aankh bachaakar hain jaatey
thhokar khaakar sambhalne waale
jeet hai teri haar nahin
hai matlab ki duniyaa sari
yahaan koi kisi ka yaar nahin
kisi ko sachcha pyaar nahin

ae bande Bhagwaan se darr
ae bande Bhagwaan se darr
insaan se mat darr
mohar lagi hai uski tere
haq ke daane daane par
haq ke daane daane par
uski marji binaa tere
chubh sakta koi khaar nahin
hai matlab ki duniyaa saari
yahaan koi kisi ka yaar nahin
kisi ko sachcha pyaar nahin
kisi ko sachcha pyaar nahin
kisi ko sachcha pyaar nahin

Kamath ji,
Sushant Banerjee was a Music Director in West Bengal, but occasionally he came to Bombay and gave music to films. Some other films where he was the only composer are kuldeep-46,Ghar Grihasthi-58,and Harischandra-58.
I believe Jayanti Joshi and Bharat Mehta were his assistants.
As far as the record for number of Music Directors is concerned the Cup goes to film PATHAN-1962 where the total number of Music Directors,as per the HFGK is a whopping 9 MDs.They are-Fakir Mohd,Jimmy,Asar,Shambhu,Dattaraj,Rajbhushan,David,Brijbhushan and Shyambabu. to add to the crowd, there were 5 Lyricists also.Together, all these people made only 7 songs.

Thanks for the clarification about Music Directors of the film
.
9 MDs for PATHAN ?
Some of them may not have been paid by the producer of the film 🙂

Kamathji,
Just like you, I had listened to this pure gem of Mukesh in my younger days too. Not aware of the film or MD, truly loved this song when played on vivdhbharati. Thanks so much.
