Tere iss pyaar ka shukriyaa

Posted on: February 9, 2012

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Continuing on the sojourn re-discovering and enjoying once again, the melodies created by N Dutta. Here is a lovely piano song, an expression of love and gratitude towards the loved one. On screen the song is performed by Joy Mukherjee playing the piano and singing to Komal, his lady love.

The song is from the film ‘Aag Aur Daag’, a film from the year 1970. This film is produced under the banner of Temple Films, and is directed by A Salaam. A social drama that includes the following names in the list of actors – Joy Mukherjee, Komal, Jayant, Madan Puri, IS Johar, Helen, Bhagwan, Sudhir, Zeb Rehman, Rajan Haksar, Shetty, Shefali, Paro, Majnoo, Roopali, Uma Dutt, Shabana, Raj Rani etc. The songs in this film are written by SH Behari (aka Shamsul Huda Behari) and Noor Devaasi. This song is penned by SH Behari. And the music direction is by N Dutta. The singing voice is that of Rafi Saab.

The setting for the song is a party. In the beginning of the clip, the leading lady presents a request to hero, to present a song. In the video clip, we can also see Jayant present as part of the gathering, listening to the song. Seated next to him is a lady. Is that Zeb Rehman? I do not see another name in the list of artists that might be this person. I request other readers to please help to identify this actress.

Enjoy this lovely expression of love, composed by N Dutta. A simple melody, rendered simply and with happiness by Rafi Saab; a pleasant listening.

aaj in haathon mein phir se zindagi hai saaz hai
kyaa kahoon ae husn tujh par kitan mujh ko naaz hai

There is life, and music
Once again in my hands today
O charming lady
I cannot express
The pleasant pride for you (in my heart)
tere iss pyaar ka shukriyaa
mere meharbaan
My benefactor
A thousand thanks for your love

socha na thha kabhi, itni haseen bhi
hoti hai zindagi, ae jaan-e-jaan

That life can be so wonderful
I never thought it so
O the life of my breath

maanaa ke zindagi kaanton mein hai pali
phoolon se hai bhari meri daastan

This life has nurtured
On a bed of thorns
(But today)
My saga is abounding with blossoming flowers

tu hai to raat kya, darne ki baat kya
taaron se hai bharaa mera aasmaan

You are with me
There is no darkness, there is no fear
Millions of shining stars fill up my sky

The lady in a white saari seated next to Jayanth is PAARO(she was always casted in a role of kothewaali/madam of brothel, I have seen her as mother to Leena chandavarkar in Mehboob ki mehandi and Sharafat(with HemaMalini)Hanste Zakham.

Komal has got another name POONAM/POONAM SINHA(She is wife of Actor Shathrughna sinha)and acted in Sabak(1973),Sanghursh(Dilipkumar),JigriDost(1969),Dil Diwana(1974),
Aadmi Aur Insaan(1969)Jodha Akbar(as a character artiste-2008)

OMG. I never knew this Komal is Poonam Sinha. Thanks Prakahji.
About this Paro, as a kid, I never liked her role as a Kothawali Madam as she was too good for this role. She has always acted well as a mean lady torturing/abusing those innocence girls to make them kothawali. Whenever I talked about kothawali Madam, I remember “Veena as a “Nawabjaan” in Pakeezah.

You are right Veena is excellent in that role and then
Mridula Rani,Zaibunnisa,Nadiraji,Indira Bansal and the great Manoramaji(in Mujhe jeene do-those devilish fluttering eyelashes)Dina Pathakji(in Mausam)Shaukat Kaifi Azmi(in Old Umrao jaan)shabana azmi(in new Umrao jaan)and shabana azmi again in MANDI, were also very good in those type of roles.

Prakash ji,

Thanks for the identification. When I read the name ‘Paro’ in the list of actors, I thought her to be someone much more senior.

Also, thanks for the connection re Komal – Poonam Sinha.

Sudhir ji,
AAG AUR DAAG-1970 was actually a very interesting film, but due to poor acting and direction,it did not become a hit, though the story and music was good.
komal,as rightly pointed out by Prakash ji,is now Mrs.poonam Shatrughna Sinha-mother of Sonakshi Sinha-Heroine of Dabang.Komal Sinha(before marriage also she was a Sinha) was winner of Miss India in 1966 and did many small roles in films as enumerated above by Prakash ji.On insistance of Ashutosh Govarikar she applied grease paint after 30 years in Jodha Akbar.
The story of Aag aur Daag-
When young,Raja lives with his well to do parents in great happiness. On one Diwali day his father goes to a club to play cards, where he starts winning, but suddenly starts losing. His friend Madanlal(Madan Puri) who is with him knows that a rich person is cheating in cards.Raja’s father loses everything and decides to commit suicide with family. All 3 go to the sea,but the mother could not drag her son to death and Raja has to see his parents die before his eyes.Madanlal brings him up reminding him all the while to take revenge.
Raja(Joy Mukherjee) meets Renu(Komal) daughter of rich Ratanlal(Rajan Haksar) and falls in her love. They marry and Ratanlal makes all his business and wealth in his name.Raja still wants to take revenge on father’s cheater. He opens up a Card club and invites all con people.Madanlal who has seen the cheat and Raja wait for the prey to come.Atlast he comes.Madanlal points out to him and Raja is shocked because he is none other than Renu’s father,Ratanlal.
The story takes a turn here.Ratanlal knows that Raja is son of his victim, that is why he has given everything to him back after marrying Renu.one day he tells all this to Renu, which Raja hears, but before he could do anything,Ratanlal shoots himself.

Whether this character artiste RAJEN HAKSAR is the real life husband of the character artiste MANORAMA????(Chaachi of Seeta aur geeeta)

Like

Prakash ji,
Manorama was in films since 1926 and acted as a Heroine in few films in Lahore. Her famous films were Khazanchi-41,Khandaan-42 and Poonji-43.
She married RAJA NAQSAR also an actor in those days. After partition, they migrated to India and Raja became a flop producer.
He returned to acting, this time changing his name to RAJAN HAKSAR,for obvious reasons.

Arun ji,

Thanks for the detailed synopsis – it really does sound a very interesting storyline. And I believe, this film would be one of more meatier roles for Rajan Haksar, as per the above description. I have the disc of this film, but have not got around to viewing it yet. I will now see it soon. 🙂
