Geet tere saaz ka

Posted on: March 7, 2012

“Inteqaam” (1969) was a Shaktiman Enterprises movie. It was directed by R K Nayyar. Starcast of the movie had Sanjay Khan, Sadhana,Helen, Anju Mahendru, Bhagwan, Jeevan, Rajendranath, Asit Sen, Siddhu, Azad, Ashok Kumar, Rehman, Iftekhar, Leela Chitnis etc.

This movie had some fantastic songs in it. I in fact thought that all the great songs from this movie were already covered in the blog. I was wrong of course.

Here is this song from “Inteqaam” (1969) which was not yet part of the blog.

This song is sung by Lata. The song is picturised in the 1960s style. Sanjay Khan stops his Willys jeep on a bridge and gets down. He hears this song emanating from a far- from a boat . He tries to get near the source of the song. It is a woman and she is dressed in white of course, and she is visible only in the longshot, though you cannot tell by the clarity of the song :). Sanjay Khan watches the mysterious lady in white singing a song with a bemused expression on his face, when the director required some more expressive expression. Sanjay Khan was not alone of course. He was following in the footsteps of Manoj Kumar in “Wo Kaun Thhi”(1964), who also watches the same lady singing a suspense song from a distance.

The song is written by Rajinder Krishan. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

geet tere saaz ka

main teri humraaz hoon
geet tere saaz ka
teri hi aawaaz hoon
tu bhi mera saathi ban jaa
main teri humraaz hoon
geet tere saaz ka
teri hi aawaaz hoon

aaaaa

zehar piyen kyun hum
tu mere jeewan ka panchhi
main teri parwaaz hoon
geet tere saaz kaa
teri hi aawaaz hoon
tu bhi mera saathi ban jaa
main teri humraaz hoon
geet tere saaz ka
teri hi aawaaz hoon

do din ka saath nahin
ho o
saari umar ka hai saath
ho o
do din ka saath nahin
ho o
saari umar ka hai saath
jeete jee naa
aaa
honge judaa ye
aaj miley jo haath
tu meri saanson ka maalik
main teri dumsaaz hoon
geet tere saaz ka
teri hi aawaaz hoon
tu bhi mera saathi ban jaa
main teri humraaz hoon
geet tere saaz ka
teri hi aawaaz hoon
geet tere saaz ka
teri hi aawaaz hoon

According of the physics of bollywood, sound travels very very far. but light does not (or sight does not)

A nice tuneful song nevertheless.

Thanks a lot for this observation. Indeed this law of Bollywood physics finds wide application in Hindi movie songs.

Just beautiful! Lata’s magic never fails.
There was a Marathi remake of this film, `Naav Motha Lakshan Khota’ and the actress Ranjana played the heroine. If I’m not mistaken, Anuradha Paudwal sang the song for this situation, a different tune altogether – it went `Shodhu me kashi kuthe priya tulaaa….’ and was featured on Doordarshan’s`Chitramala’ that came on Mondays and on the Marathi Chitrageet programme.
