Many of the songs that we discuss in this blog are those that we have heard in the past and we want to relive them and enjoy them again. There there is another kind of music, one that we may never have heard before for the simple reason that these songs did not become popular enough to get played on radio. With passage of time, these songs got buried under the sand of time, apparently for ever.
But then something wonderful happened in the early parts of 21st century. Internet came into existence and sharing information about music became easy. As a result, we are now coming to know about songs that few people had heard before and that was several decades ago when these songs were released. The generations who grew up in the in the later decades were not fortunate enough to listen to these songs.
Here is a superb song from “Alibaba Aur Chalis Chor” (1954). It was a B grade movie which was produced by Basant Pictures. It was a Homi Wadia directed movie and it had B grade superstars like Mahipal, Shakila, B M Vyas, S N Tripathi, Maruti,Sharda etc in it.
Just listen to this song and watch it. What a song ! It has got to be one of Asha Bhonsle’s greatest songs. It is unfortunate that the song is not even known to most music lovers.
The song is picturised as a stage dance song on Shakila who plays Marjina in the movie. Raja Mehdi Ali Khan has written cute and interesting lyrics of the song. The movie had two music directors, viz S N Tripathi and Chitragupta. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us which out of the two music directors composed this nicve song. Provisionally I have assumed S N Tripathi to the the composer of this song.

Atul ji,
In this film,all the songs were done jointly by Tripathi and Chitragupta,just like a JODI.No individual credit for any of the songs is given.
This film was released in the last week of March 1954,but its colour version was also released again in 1956.
