Sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan

Posted on: April 4, 2012

Philosophical songs is a genre of songs that are calming to the nerves and they help us see things in perspective and make us realise that we are mere specks in the grand scheme of things and so one should not entertain delusions of grandeur about oneself. We are mere puppets and someone far more omnipotent is running the show.

Here is a lovely song from “Baap Bete” (1959) which captures the essence of this philosophy quite elegantly. The song is sung by Rafi. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Madan Mohan composed the music. When such divinely talented people are at work then the effect can only be magical and listening to this song is a spiritually fulfilling experience.

Personally I heard this song for the first time only just now.

Only the audio of this song is available and who knows, this could well be a blessing in disguise as the picturisation could well have let the song down. I am only making a guess and I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light about the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan (Baap Bete)(1959) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan
hogi wohi poori jise chaahe bhagwaan
sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan
hogi wohi poori jise chaahe bhagwaan

honi ke haath mein
tu ek khilona hai
usne jo soch liya
bass wohi honaa hai
honi ke haath mein
tu ek khilona hai
usne jo soch liya
bass wohi honaa hai
tujhko giraaye wohi
aur uthaaye wohi
bebas tu hai naadaan
ho sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan
hogi wohi poori jise chaahe bhagwaan
sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan
hogi wohi poori jise chaahe bhagwaan

jo kuchh bhi hai sab uskaa tamaashaa hai
aashaa kahin pe hain to kahin pe nirashaa hai
jo kuchh bhi hai sab uskaa tamaashaa hai
aashaa kahi pe hain to kahin pe niraashaa hai
rakhhe adhoore kabhi
kar bhi de poore kabhi
jiske wo chaahe armaan
o sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan
hogi wohi poori jise chaahe bhagwaan
sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan
hogi wohi poori jise chaahe bhagwaan

My parents used to virtually drag me for movies. I wasn’t fond of them and used to bawl my lungs out! In 1954, I was all of 5 years old and my parents had dragged me for ‘Baap Bete’. All I remember today is a soft beautiful Lata Mangeshkar song..”Dil unko utha ke de diya…” sung by Shyama in the movie.

Extra singing but the focus is on Shyama.
