“Deewana Hoon Pyar Ka” sung by Kishore Kumar is from the film “Qaid” (1975). The song was written by Maya Govind and composed by Nitin Mangesh.

Nitin–Mangesh were a Hindi film music composer duo active mainly during the 1970s and early 1980s, remembered as part of a generation of talented but relatively lesser-known Bollywood composers who worked during an era dominated by giants such as Laxmikant–Pyarelal, R. D. Burman, and Kalyanji–Anandji.

The duo consisted of Nitin and Mangesh Gajjar, who began their musical journey in Gujarat before moving to Mumbai to pursue opportunities in the Hindi film industry. Deeply influenced by the legendary composer duo Shankar–Jaikishan, they developed a melodic style marked by rich orchestration and strong classical overtones.

Before entering films, they performed with local music groups and later formed their own orchestra called BlueBird, where they showcased original compositions. Their Bollywood debut came with “Samaanta” (1972), although the film encountered release difficulties. They later composed music for films such as “Qaid” (1975), “Aafat” (1977), and “Khanjar” (1980).

Nitin–Mangesh worked with many of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated playback singers, including Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, and Manna Dey. Their compositions reflected the melodious and classically influenced character of 1970s Hindi film music, often blending romantic, dramatic, and suspenseful moods.

Though they did not achieve the widespread fame of the leading composers of their time, Nitin–Mangesh are fondly remembered by collectors and admirers of vintage Hindi film music for their tuneful and thoughtfully crafted scores.

Nitin passed away in 2012, while Mangesh continued to remain associated with music independently.

Qaid (1975) is a Hindi suspense-thriller directed and produced by Atma Ram and starring Vinod Khanna and Leena Chandavarkar. The film blends mystery, romance, and psychological suspense, with a plot centered on mistaken identity, deception, and murder.

Synopsis:

Advocate Jai Saxena lives a quiet life with his widowed mother. Their ordinary routine is disrupted when a young woman named Imarsi briefly works as their maid but is dismissed after they suspect her of dishonesty. Days later, she unexpectedly returns in the middle of the night, terrified and desperate, claiming that she is actually Preet, the rightful heiress to the vast fortune of Rai Bahadur Tulsinath. She insists that someone is trying to kill her and that a dangerous conspiracy is underway to seize her inheritance.

Jai is sympathetic and wants to help her, but before he can decide whom to trust, the police arrive and reveal shocking information: the woman is allegedly Ragini, a wanted murderess. Faced with conflicting identities and accusations, Jai is drawn into a dangerous mystery where appearances are deceptive and no one can be trusted.

The Story:

The story unfolds as Jai attempts to uncover the truth behind the mysterious woman’s claims. Though everyone around him warns him that she is a manipulative criminal, Jai senses that there is more to her story. As he investigates, he discovers strange inconsistencies in the statements of Rai Bahadur’s associates and begins to suspect a carefully orchestrated plot.

The mystery deepens when evidence emerges suggesting that Preet may indeed be the real heiress, while powerful people around the estate are trying to erase her identity and frame her as Ragini to gain control of the fortune. Jai finds himself caught between the law, criminal conspirators, and his growing emotional attachment to the woman.

Through a series of suspenseful revelations, disguises, and confrontations, the truth comes out: a conspiracy involving greed, impersonation, and attempted murder has been engineered to eliminate the rightful heir. Jai exposes the culprits, clears Preet’s name, and restores justice.

The film concludes with the villains brought to justice and Jai and Preet united, bringing the suspenseful drama to a satisfying resolution.
