“Love in Simla” (1960) was Joy Mukherji’s home production and it was the debut movie for Joy Mukherji as well as Sadhana. And what a smashing debut it was for both !
The music of this movie played a huge role in the success of this movie. It is unfortunate the Iqbal Qureshi, the music director of this movie failed to reap much benefit of this success, unlike Joy Mukherjee and Sadhana who went on to have a whole decade of success during 1960s.
I have discussed as many as six songs from this movie and each one of them is a gem. Here is another gem from the movie which I was not aware of.
This song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised as a rail song on Joy Mukherji.
While watching the picturisation of this song, I notice that Joy Mukherji in this movie was not inspired by Shammi Kapoor but by Dev Anand. And that stands to reason because Shammi Kapoor, despite the success of “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957) and ‘Dil Deke Dekho” (1958) had perhaps not acquired the same aura that he later acquired with “Junglee” (1962). Today we remember Joy Mukherji as a Shammi Kapoor clone but who knows, he began being inspired by Dev Anand in his debut movie. He reminds me of Dev Anand, at least in the picturisation of this songPerhaps our knowledgeable readers may be able to throw more light on this matter.
Coming to this song , it is a fantastic song to listen to. Rafi sings this song with gusto. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist of this song.
and the picturisation of this song, specially the picturisation of the train meandering through picturesqe terrain is breathtaking. A party is shown during the interluded where a plain jane Sadhana is the only one who is not partying.
This song was perhaps the first song picturised on Joy Mukherji and Sadhana. That way it is a song of historical importance.

The songs of this film were very popular and contributed for film’s success but music director Iqbal Qureshi, though very talented, could not be so successful as a MD.
