Saanchaa naam teraa
Posted on: May 1, 2012
Achala Sachdev (born 3 may 1920- died 30 april 2012) died yesterday. She was 91 and she was three days short of completing 92 years. She started her film career at a young age, as a child actor in fact, but it is as a filmy mother that she is remembered the most.
In the eyes of most movie watchers, she is remembered as the middle aged wife whose Husband (Balraj Sahni) playfully makes passes at her in a public get together in the immortal “Waqt” (1965) song Ae meri zohra jabeen. The song was sung by Manna Dey. It is a rare coincidence that Balraj Sahni and Manna Dey were born on 1 may whereas Achla Sachdev was born on 3 may.
Achala Sachdev remained active in Hindi movies till late 1990s and she played Kajol’s Grandmother in “Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge” (1995). Unlike a few other long suffering filmy mothers and grandmothers, Achla Sachdev is rememberd as a relatively happy and well adjusted filmy Maa of Hindi movies. At least that is how I remember her.
Several songs were picturised on her during her long innings in Hindi movies. Here is one of the better known songs picturised on her. This song is a well known bhajan from “Julie” (1975). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar. It is lip synced by Achala Sachdev and Reeta Bhaduri, with Laxmi also visible in the picturisation.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.
Prakashchandra, who sent me the lyrics of this song mentioned it that the video lacks one stanza and that the full audio of this song is not available on YT. He is right. The ACTUAL full audio of this song is not available though cover version of this song is uploaded there and naive uploaders (who cannot differentiate Asha Bhonsle’s distinctive classy voice from other female voices )have uploaded them, believing it to be the original. In fact, most of the internet sites have this audio. I have uploaded the original full audio of this song and listening to the original voices in full is such a huge relief after listening to the unoriginal voices.
Here is this bhajan from “Julie” (1975) as a tribute to Achala Sachdev. May her soul rest in piece.

You are right ,Atulji
(Bandar kyaa jaane adrak ka swaad-Muhaawraa Correct quote kiyaa hai naa??)
I will say, 90% don`t care about the original music director, lyricist& singers.
3 or 4 years ago, even once I have heard Anuradha Paudhwal ji`s cover version of famous Adalat- Lataji song “Yun hasrathon ke daag mohabbat mein dho liye” at late night Programme of Vividh Bharthi programme:BELA KE PHOOL(Late night 11.30 p.m.)
Either the guy who prepared the programme don`t know who sang the song or he don`t care about original singer.
They relish the crystal clear quality sound of music instruments, voice, lyrics and all that in their swanky Car stereo, but don`t give damn care about originality.

Thank God, (& Atulji) for the original audio track.
I became restless yesterday evening, while searching for asha ji`s original audio link. The reason :
I came across Anuradha paudhwal`s saancha naam tera, satyam shivam sundaram(title song) and many more cover versions of Anuradha Paudhwal ji uploaded by T.series.
It`s very sad, no one is bothered about original track singers.First of all no one know who are the original singers. That`s the tregedy. They don`t even care about such things.
Sometime ago, at a family gathering, while I pointed out the original singer is some other one, then one of my relative uttered:”Gaanaa tho wohi na, kaun gaayaa hai farkh nahin padthaa”.Then onwards I kept my mouth shut about subject of original singers.

I too was quite upset about the same fact yesterday night and I made sure I got the original audio. There is a huge difference in quality between Asha Bhonsle’s voice and the voices in cover versions. if there are people who cannot differentiate between the original voice and other voices, then they do not know what they are missing.
