Koi gori gulaabi si ladki

Posted on: May 13, 2012

“Kismat Palat Ke Dekh” (1961) is as obscure a movie as any. This movie was a Movie Hits Production. It was directed by C S Dubey !

The movie had Anoop Kumar, Preetibala, Pritibala, Iftekhar, Durga Khote, Daljeet, Jeevankala etc.

Here is an obscure song from this obcure movie. The song is sung by Rafi and Geeta Dutt. The lyricist is not known and I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us about the lyricist of this song.

Music of this song is composed by Gunjan, who is none other than G M Durrani.

Yes, this song must be regarded as one of the most obscure songs ever.

Song-Koi gori gulaabi si ladki (Kismat Palat Ke Dekh)(1961) Singers-Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Lyrics- MD-Gunjan (G M Durrani)
Rafi + Geeta Dutt=Fuchsia

Lyrics

koi gori gulaabi si ladki
hmm
muskuraayi to bijli si kadki
kaisi soorat hai
kaisi moorat hai
dhadkanen banke dil mein jo dhadki

ho koi gori gulaabi si ladki
muskuraayi to bijli si kadki

dilbar mila
rang peela hua
achhha
aata gareebi mein geela hua
bante hain joker
raja ji hokar
shaayad koi pench dheela huaa

dil leke deti hai jhhadki
koi gori gulaabi si ladki
muskuraayi to bijli si kadki

dil mein machalti si kyun tees hai
kya pyaar karne ki ye fees hai

karti hai chori
aur phir seena zori
kaisi nazar chaar sau bees hai
jaane na kyaa aag bhadki
koi gori gulaabi si ladki
muskuraayi to bijli si kadki

yaaron ke haath apni har dor hai
hmm hmm
dil apna bechaara kamzor hai
dil dil se raazi
to kaisa kaazi
dil pe chala kiska kab zor hai

takraaye dil aankh phhadki
koi gori gulaabi si ladki
muskuraayi to bijli si kadki
kaisi soorat hai
oh ho
kaisi moorat hai
waah waah
dhadkanen banke jo dil mein dhadki
koi gori gulaabi si ladki
muskuraayi to bijli si kadki

Atul ji,
KISMET PALAT KE DEKH-1961 was truely an obscure movie. It was clearly a B grade film with the appropriate starcast. The Hero Anup kumar was in Double Role in this film(as if One Anup was not enough !).
The film produced byBalendra Gupta and N.C.Nanda,under the banner of Movie Hits(indicating hopes),was directed by C.S.Dubey or Chandrashekhar Dubey,a small time actor in those days.Dubey was a veteran, having started his career from the 30s and he used his knowledge of old films in this. The original title of this film was ‘Jara Palat ke dekh’.There was a reason for this.Dubey had debuted in Pak Daman-1932 as a small actor when he was in his teens.
In this film there was Noor Mohammed Charlie also debuting.Charlie was already a hit comedian due to his private shows. In this film he used a line
‘ ae jara palat ke dekh…tera dhyan kidhar hai ? ‘ this gimmick became a rage in those times and Charlie was asked by producers to repeat this line in his every film ! Taking a clue from this line,Dubey kept this title for his maiden venture, but later on the title was changed to Kismet palat ke dekh. However neither the audience ‘jara bhi palat ke dekh’ nor their kismet changed jara bhi !
The music was by G.M.Durrani,under the penname of Gunjan. He also gave music in 1961 to one more film as Gunjan-state express.Durrani,a famous singer in the 40s,started slipping in 50s and 60s badly. With the advent of new singers the old ones had to make way. That is how the world works ! Earlier Durrani had given music ,in his own name ,to Angoori,Vijaylaxmi and Dhadkan, but it was lacklustre.
The lyricists were Akhtar Romani and Sadik Nazmi.Story/s-play by Sriprakash and Dialogues bu Suman Romani.
The story had nothing remarkable and it was highly predictable.Prince Kunwar(Anup Kumar) is studying in UK when his father dies and the king appoints him as his successor, instead of his elder brother Samsher(Daljit),who is a gone case, indulging in wine women and gambling.Kunwar starts for India.Samsher wants to kill him.Loyal Diwan ji and another sardar,Mansingh are escorting kunwar when they are attacked.Diwanji is killed, kunwar is injured seriously and thrown in a river presuming dead, but mansingh escapes.Mansingh, one day finds Badloo(Anup Kumar),who looks same to same as Kunwar.Mansingh does not know that he is a Barber.mansingh makes him the Kunwar and brings him to the capital of Kingdom.Princess kiran(Pritibala-another failed artist) who is engaged to Kunwar suspects Badloo.
Here kunwar is saved by people of Imlipur as Badloo and brought to his ‘mother'(Durga Khote).kunwar understands the situation and keeps quiet till opportune moment comes. Finally he contacts Kiran and they together expose the imposter prince, kill Samsher in a finght and reunite themselves as a reward.
In the early 60s,when the Film industry was churning out excellent movies after movies,it was hardly expected that such a film will succeed. The film got what it deserved.A peaceful rest in the can !

Though HFGK is silent on song credits, except that it mentions both names of Akhtar Romani and Sadiq nizami as Lyricists of the film, according to the ‘Hindi filmon ke geetkar’ the song is written by Akhtar Romani.

Arunji, it is remarkable how you know so much about films we have not even known existed. But yes, Chandreshekhar Dubey is another story. He has done villinous roles, comedy roles, character roles and had been in the industry for a number of years. He was most popular as ‘dalal’ of prostitutes — TEESRI KASAM. I would like to know more abot him.

Gupta ji,
Thanks for your kind words.
C.S.or Chandrashekhar Dubey was born on 4-9-1924 in M.P.
When he was very young he started acting in films in small roles.Later he participated in the 1942 ‘ Quit India’ movement and was jailed. From 1947 to early fifties he did many jobs to survive and finally ended as a office peon/boy with Amiya Chakrawarty, slowly coming up as a prodn.Manager and also as an asstt.Director.He has acted in about 300 films,150 of them as character artist. He usually gor negative roles, like Money lender,Rapist or as a Pimp etc
In his early years he worked for AIR also.
He died on 28-9-1993.

As a kid, I really hated that person, of course on the screen, very badly. The second person in my “to be murdered” list along with him was Kanhaiyalal. Then came Jankidas. There were many in my list like Pran, Murad, Premnath, Sapru, K N Singh, Jeevan Sajjan, I S Johar, Ajit, Madan Puri, Jayant, Hiralal and so many more. But these two were “blessed” to be on top of that list.
Those were the days! Villains were good actors too. Abhi to hero hi bura ban jata hai to pata hi nahin chalta ki is ko kaun si category mein daal doon. 🙂

Thanks, Arunji. C. S. Dubey, like Jankidass, was destined to be in the film indusery for long without making a lasting impression. But it is dedicated souls like this who take most of the burden of film production doing all and sundry jobd. A trivia about C.S.Dubey: he did not were shoes, like M. F. Hussain. He only wore shoes, chappals in front of camera.

As a kid,Me too hated C.S.Dubey
I saw him harassing Nutan in Seema(Nutan ji give a tight slap to him,I think in this movie)
Sharmila Tagore in Mausam(I still get jitters remembering his rape scenes in this movie)
Mandakini in Ram teri Ganga maili(as a priest who tries to lure heroine)

Again he was there as one of the rapist in grocery godown in Roti Kapda aur makaan(amidst of atta and grains), Am I right???

Like

I could be wrong, but I thought he was the only rapist in Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.
