Tera man mera man miley preet yoon khiley

Posted on: May 20, 2012

“Chandramukhi” (1960) was a Kanti Production movie. It was directed by R Thakur. This B grade movie had Manhar Desai, Kavita, B. M. Vyas, Maruti etc in it.

Here is a lesser known song from this obscure movie. This song is a duet which is sung by Lata and mukesh. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by S N Tripathi.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to guess how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

tera mann mera mann miley
preet yoon khile
ki door andhere hon
mujhe to aisaa lage
ki bass tum mere ho
tera mann mera mann miley
preet yoon khile
ki door andhere hon
mujhe to aisaa lage
ki bass tum mere ho
tum mere ho

aji tum mere ho

paayal ki meri rum jhum ho
maathe ki meri kumkum ho
paayal ki meri rum jhum ho
maathe ki meri kumkum ho
jisko dhoondhte thhey naina
bolo aji kyaa wahi tum ho
mann pe jaadoo kiyaa
rang bhar diyaa re chatur chitere ho
mujhe to aisaa lage
ki bass tum mere ho
tera mann mera mann miley
preet yoon khile
ki door andhere ho
mujhe to aisaa lage
ki bass tum mere ho
tum mere ho

aji tum mere ho

dekhi jhalak inn aankhon mein
milti nahin woh laakhon mein
dekhi jhalak inn aankhon mein
milti nahin woh laakhon mein
tere jitne rang kahaan
titli ki chanchal paankhon mein
pehle to roop sajaa ke
jee abb yoon lajaa ke
kyu mukhdaa phere ho
mujhe to aisaa lage
ki bass tum mere ho

tera mann mera mann miley
preet yu khile
ki door andhere ho
mujhe to aisaa lage
ki bass tum mere ho
tum mere ho
ajii tum mere ho
tum mere ho
aji tum mere ho

Atul ji,
CHANDRAMUKHI-1960 was a B grade film of Fantasy and Costume drama.Such stories depicting Dance, drama, evil magicians, curses, omens, fights, kings and queens etc were in plenty in the begining of Hindi film history.Slowly their quantity became less and films on social issues started coming.Later on in the 50s and 60s films depicting a boy and girl in love, their parents having misunderstandings or old enemity or Amiri-garibi background etc started.Still later new wave films depicting the ordinary lives of ordinary people and their problems came and finally,Murders, fighting, bombs, violence, ishq, songs and a mix of all these became the staple of Hindi films.
However the decline of fairy tales and magic stories had already started in the 60s and films of this type had no future anymore.Accordingly,Chandramukhi had also flopped as the audience for such films had changed.
A Kanti films prodn.,Chandramukhi was produced by Kantilal Kanakiya and directed by Ratilal Thakkar-a Gujarati film director. In fact the entire star cast(or most of it),the technical staff and the main players were all Gujarati,so I suspect that either the story came from Gujarat or it was a remake of a Gujarati film.May be.
The Heroine Kavita started her career from Noor mahal and Gul Bahar in 1954,before doing the lead in Chandramukhi and few other films. After few films she got married and then again featured in films with a gap between films till 1991.Some of her films were, mera Ghar mere bachhe,Veer Ghatotkach,Sunayana,Diler,Atyachar,Hum bhi kuch kam nahin,Shrawan kumar etc.
Manhar Desai-a well known hero in Gujarati films and stage was actually a goanese Christian Malcolm Alfredo Desai(1917-1992),who became popular in Gujarat immensely.
Raigarh Maharaj gets a son,but there is a curse that if he sees his son,he would lose his eyesight,so the child is thrown in the river. It is found by a poor Shepherd and grows to be a handsome young man with magic powers in his flute playing.Due to this magic,Chandramukhi, who became a statue because of an evil genie, comes to life and dutifully starts loving the prince. Her father takes her away after she is rescued from the Genie by a magician. The magician now becomes king’s minister and also wants her.The prince ,while roaming, once meets his father in Raigarh and the king prompty loses his sight. Now he can see only if a flower of Chandramukhi is brought.Searching for the flower, prince reaches Anjangarh where the evil magician captures him and also the king, demanding that Chandramukhi should marry him now,or else……!
A loyal dancer rescues the Prince who is helped by a fair fairy to get the flower of Chandramukhi. With the sight fully restored, king of Raigadh helps the prince to attack Anjangarh, kill the evil magician, rescue the king and finally marry prince and chandramukhi to live happily ever after.
