Phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye

Posted on: June 4, 2012

“Zindagi aur Khwaab” (1961) was a New Precious Pictures production. It was directed by S Bannerji. The movie had Meena Kumari, Rajendra Kumar, Jayant, Agha, Naazi, Jeevankala, Pratima Devi, Mumtaz Begum, Keshav, etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. Five songs from this movie have already been discussed in the blog.

The missing song is a rare song which is not available easily. Only the audio of this song seems to be available. The song is sung by Mubarak Begam. Pradeep is the lyricist and music is composed by Dattaram.

From the audio, one can guess that the song is picturised in the movie as a mujra song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the picturisation of this song.

With this song, “Zindagi Aur Maut” (1961) joins the list of those movies where all songs have been discussed in the blog.

PS-My thanks to bluefire, who pointed out the video link to me and now we can see the video of this song too.

Lyrics

aaa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
aa aa aa
o o o
haaye
phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye
phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
haaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye
phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
haaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye

bataaiye janaab
pyaar karoon
ya na karoon
apni ulfat ka main
izhaar karoon ya na karoon
ae ji huzoor
zara itna faisla kar den
kisi ko main galey ka haar
karoon ya na karoon
bahut achche
koi rasta nazar nahin aaye
koi rasta nazar nahin aaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
haaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye

karoon kis kis se main pehchaan
badi mushqil hai
abhi dil hai mera naadaan
badi mushqil hai
jidhar bhi jaaiye
milte hain hazaaron majnoo
aur akeli hai meri jaan
badi mushqil hai
haaye
bahut umda
meri uljhan ko kaun suljhaaye
meri uljhan ko kaun suljhaaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
haaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye
phool bagiya mein bhanwre aaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye
haaye
akeli chameli ghabraaye

There is another song in this movie – Mera Bandar Chala Hai Sasural. The lady in THAT song is Jeevan Kala, not this one.

ZINDAGI AUR KHWAB-1961 was based on a story by Kamal Amrohi, who had separated from Meenakumari since 1960.
Meena k. had married K.Amrohi in 1952 and if one takes a look at her films from 1952 to 1960,one will find that she was selecting light/comedy roles. She was personally very happy in life and it reflected in her films.
Some of these films are Baiju Bawra,Azaad,Mem Sahib,Miss Mary,4 dil 4 rahen,Kohinoor etc.
From 1960,after her separation she became sad and her films reflected her pathos and pessimism in her films till 1964,when finally she was divorced. Some of the films in this period were,Dil apna aur preet parayi,Zindagi aur khwab, bhabhi ki choodiyan,Sahib bibi aur ghulam,Main chup rahoongi,Dil ek mandir etc.
In ZAK,Meenakumari played the role of Shanti,an orphan, whose stepmother tortured her. Finally, she was married off to Shankar(Jayant),much older than her and a criminal.Shankar murders Chandabai(Jeevenkala) a mujrawali and escapes.Police chase his truck, which falls in a river and he is presumed dead.
Inspector Manoj(Rajendrakumar) keeps visiting Shanti for investigation and they develop love.Shanti is hoping for a better life, but Shankar appears-live- and her hopes are dashed.
The rest of the story is absolutely routine and gives ample scope for the type of acting Meena kumari and Rajendra kumar were known for.
The saving grace was the music of Dattaram,he used 6 singers for 6 songs.
The director S.Banerji, who had directed films like Dillagi,Parvarish,Madhu and Preet na jaane reet had not much scope.
