“Pyaar Ki Pyaas” (1961) was a Anupam Chitra Production. It was produced by Pt Mukhram Sharma and Mahesh Kaul. Pt Mukhram Sharma wrote the story and Mahesh Kaul directed the movie. The movie had Manmohan Krishna, Nishi Kohli, Shrikant, Honey Irani, David Abraham, Manorama, Yashodhara Katju, Lal Bahadur, Gopi Krishna, Kamal Mehra, Indira Bansal, Dulari, Kathana, Hayat, Taneja etc.

Anupam Chitra’s PYAAR KI PYAAS was directed by Mahesh kaul. Lyrics were by Bharat Vyas and the story/Dialogues/Screenplay was by Pt.Mukharam Sharma.
This is a story of Geeta, an abondoned child (Daisy Irani), who is picked up and reared by a kind owner (Manmohan Krishna) of an orphanage-Sevakunj.
Ashok and Asha (Shrikant and Nishi),though rich, have no issue and adopt Geeta whom they love very much. When, after many years,Asha gets her own baby, Geeta is neglected and she goes back to the orphanage.fter a series of hide and seek, Geeta is brought back to repentent Asha and Ashok and all is well. The pyaar ki pyaas of Geeta is finally quenched !

Today (5 july) is the death anniversary of Bharat Vyas, the lyricist of this movie. On this occasion, here is the title song of this movie which gets played in the movie at several places, viz in the beginning, in the middle of the movie, towards the end, etc. It is only the audio version which is complete in all respects. Watching the fragmented portions of the videos is cumbersome.
The song is sung by Lata, Rafi and chorus. Vasant Desai is the music director.

Wow! This song brought back memories of the golden years of the radio! Every morning at 8, Radio Ceylon broadcast new songs. This song was very popular. Another song from ‘Pyaar ki Pyaas’ was a lovely Talat~Lata duet…’Sawan ke jhoole pade…’
I was just 12 years old when ‘Pyaar ki Pyaas’ released. I’ve heard that it was a colour movie. I wonder if I’m wrong……
