I came across this song on a site of Anil Biswas songs only a couple of days ago, and as often happens with Talat songs for me, was captivated. But the song struck vaguely familiar. Mehdi Hasan has indeed sung the ghazal by Josh Malihabadi, another beautiful composition sung with the perfection of a maestro. Words are quite similar, it seems that a ‘made-easy’ version was used in the film. Accredition to ‘Josh’, as pointed out by Sri Sadanand Kamath, is hence appropriate.
The lyrics of the film are given below in devnagri script:
तेरा ख़याल दिल से मिटाया नहीं अभी

कल तूने मुस्करा के जलाया था ख़ुद जिसे,
